Discussion: Report: Border Wall To Cost Billions More Than Trump Said, Per DHS Internal Memo

To be fair, the DHS report is based on actually paying the contractors.

20 billion is more in line with reality
I did a calculation based on the cost of concrete blocks from Home Depot and came up with a similar cost. But I did not count in the cost of labor or the necessary road building thru Big Bend and other places along the Texas border with Mexico. Or that the Rio Grande sometimes changes its course or the necessary treaties exactly defining where the border is or the environmental impact statements needed.
So there’s that

Oh honest to God. This is SUCH BS. It’s not going to be built. SOME excuse will be ‘thought’ up. Trump will take credit for Obama’s policy of ‘1 in, 1 out’. Some lie will be spewed about ‘illegals’ pouring over the border. Not happening.

Well, my oh my, this is SUCH a surprise! Trump low-balling? I’m shocked!

In February 2016, Trump claimed the barrier would cost $10 billion to 12 billion. In late January of this year, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said the wall would cost $12 to 15 billion. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said the wall would cost up to $15 billion.

Three Amigos flat-out making $#!+ up, yet again.

Don’t worry, Trump says that after the wall is finished he’s going to stiff the contractors, Trump style – something about the wall not being up to Trump standards.

Does that memo cost include the Spicer multiple-multiplier factor?

Eustace, you are the master of understatement.

Mexicans are already pissed at us.

Trump: Iraq was supposed to cost us around $20 billion but it ended up in Trillions. I would say we should be ready to spend Trillions on the wall. It will create jobs though, especially for the white voters.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Let’s throw $21 billion at a project that gives absolutely no return. No new tax revenue. No new investment dollars. No new spin-offs. No new technologies. No new advancement of science or health care. No new business development. No new additions to GDP. Yes, yes, yes! Spend $21 billion and Make America Great Again!

What a crock.

The wall just got ten feet lower!

With a large part of those billions going to the Mexican suppliers of concrete and steel, who will be essential as the U.S. suppliers would not be able to supply everything.

Funny how karma can be so whimsical…

Thankfully, there’s a really big labor pool just south of there that works hard, does quality work and is really, really cheap. Just ask all those Trump-voting bidness men down in Texas. That should save us some money.

$20 billion? $40 billion? Think 100s of thousands of construction jobs that it will take to build it! Then we can build a wall on our northern border as well! More jobs! Double plus good! After that, we can stop the Syrians pouring in through our eastern border! Another great big beautiful wall!

And that’s before the inevitable real cost overruns kick in. Who makes a killing? Cemex, Mexico’s concrete virtual monopoly. Maybe Trump owns stock.
