Discussion: Obama Takes Hit For Not Visiting Flooded Louisiana, But Gov Tells Him To Wait

Meanwhile, the GOP candidates, who never care about global warming and weather/climate extremes it has most likely caused, who’d gleefully slash funding for natural disaster preps and climate change research, waste no time visiting there for political stunt and photo ops.

Remember McCain and Palin traveled to MS in 2008 when Gustav was about to hit the region and people wanted as much resource as possible for preparation? Republicans ALWAYS do this opportunistic posing. Always.

Obama: I’m going to Louisiana to visit the flood damage.
Cons: What is the President thinking he is just going to get in the way and take away resources from the flood victims. He’s tone deaf.

Obama: I’m not going to Louisiana because they need to focus on rescuing victims and I don’t want to get in the way.
Cons: He’s tone deaf and he’s not showing any leadership when Louisiana is in crisis.

You can take any news story of the day about Obama and predict the conservative position immediately.

It’s amazing how people can write this drivel. Either they’re just crushingly ignorant or so dishonest we might as well assume they’re Republican goons

Yes, he’s only a messiah of a lesser god, not the one Real Americans worship.

Well, maybe not. It’s from that well known troll…

After seven plus years, it’s ridiculous people still don’t know this President.

When I heard this (non)story, I knew there had to be a reason he hadn’t visited…and, low and behold, there it is.

The President is not about the flash and the glitz, he’ll take a political hit to do the right thing. And the comparisons to Katrina are laughable.

Is it at least a lesser elder god? I think I could settle for a messiah that can’t part the seas if he can at least reduce the weak willed and simple minded who look upon him to gibbering mad men. Hey, maybe that explains what’s been going on with Republicans the last eight years…

The needed federal resources are coming in, and that’s what counts now. Gov. Edwards said the state is receiving all the help that has been requested. It makes great good sense for the governor to suggest the president wait a week or so before coming. Wild hair is up the ass of someone on the editorial staff of the Advocate, but they are dead wrong. I guess they just don’t like Obama and jump at any excuse to criticize him. Trump and Pence will arrive today. We need them like we need more rain.

It didn’t take you very long to lose your credibility with this waste of pixels…

First off, the Big Easy is the nickname for New Orleans. Yes, NOLA has had its share of shit thrown at it, but it isn’t the center of this disaster, it’s Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas. 80 miles from the Big Easy.

Secondly, try the Google machine, for fuck’s sake.

Already happened two days ago from a former family member.

Obviously, you can’t trust a Dem Governor because he’s just covering for the Kenyan.

Hey Advocate - Fuck You!

Been wanting to get that off my chest. I briefly looked for editorials and articles about their stances on climate change, national political endorsements, commentary about Hurricane Sandy relief, but didn’t have time to wade through their swamp to look for archives.

Oh, and

Hey Advocate - Fuck You!

@seanmalloy They absolutely have. The solution they and the Army Corps of Engineers came up with is to divert the problem downstream until downstream becomes people who can’t complain because they don’t have a voice. Take a look at the land that LA is losing because they flood-controlled the Mississippi from a delta into a raging river.

I’ve never understood why the President is expected to visit disaster areas anyway. I guess it’s a visual representation of his (or her!) concern for the affected residents, which can be broadcast to the nation. Actual concern is much more important than the appearance of concern, in my opinion, and in this case I think Obama is doing the right thing. After all, aren’t there a whole bunch of people arguing that the Feds should allow states to call the shots within their own boundaries…?

Ask Billy Nungesser how the Fed response to this flooding compares to their response to Katrina.

“I would just as soon have those people engaged in the response rather than trying to secure the president,” Bel Edwards continued. “So I’d ask him to wait, if he would, another couple weeks.”

Hear that repukes? As usual you are lying about the President!

Obama will go to Louisiana and the whole country will be watching when he talks about the urgency of climate change.

I grew up in Louisiana, in LA politics in fact, and Edwards impressed me last night on “Maddow” which, since I’ve lived in CA longer by now, was the first time I’d really seen him in action.

What an improvement over what’s his name

Actually the REPUG headlines are written prior to the event only the event name be added for issue. One of these days they will accidently issue the bitch prior to the actual event and/or the newspaper/media will forget about the “do not distribute prior to xxxxxx” statement.
