Discussion: Mueller Wouldn't Accuse Manafort Of Lying Without Major Proof, Experts Say

No I don’t think he walks away from the trouble he’s in but I still can see him walking away from from the presidency to avoid some of it.

Received from Corsi, pretty clearly.

Stone’s response to the NBC article:

“None of these emails provide any evidence or proof that I knew in advance about the source or content of any of the allegedly stolen or allegedly hacked emails published by WikiLeaks. Since when did gossip become a criminal offense? Where is the WikiLeaks collaboration? Where is the evidence that I received anything whatsoever from WikiLeaks and passed it on to Donald Trump? These emails prove nothing other than the fact that Jerry Corsi is an aggressive investigative reporter.”

Stone can take it up with the jury.

The timing of the emails indicates that he did know what Wikileaks had and sought the information. Corsi’s email back to Stone tells him so. Stone also communicated directly with GRU and reviewed/commented on some of the stolen info.

Using or attempting to obtain and/or use stolen information is a crime. Stone pretty clearly knew the information was stolen at the time he sought it. There are also the federal election campaign act violations to consider here as well. What we know is a fraction of what Mueller has learned about what happened to those emails and who in the US worked with the Russians and Wikileaks to coordinate their use and release.

In that response, he’s treading water.

After a while it gets tiring.

I’m sure. But what does the rational part of your mind tell you? That Trump will probably find a way to outwit Bobby Three Sticks and his crew of killers? Because if so, tell Rational Part I got twenty bucks says no way.

Oh I think between his hubris and incompetence, it’s definitely possible that Trump has no plan (although he probably thinks he does).

I’m sorry? A perjury trap is exactly what this was. Mueller was asking Manafort questions to which he already knew the answer. Trump’s written answers were almost certainly tailored to match Manafort’s lies - making him guilty, potentially, of obstruction of justice.
Here is a definition from former federal prosecutor Randall Eliason:
“…what it means is that the prosecutor calls you in to testify not
because they’ve got some legitimate investigative reason to have you
testify but simply to try to sort of trick you or trap you into some
kind of a lie that they could then charge you with.”

The rational part of my mind, captain, says that a known criminal and liar, cannot possibly retain power once his weakness and bad policy are known to the populace. And yet, a portion of your earth population, did elect such a man to power. Therefore, I can only assume that although the best interests of the country would demand this man be brought to justice, your own history shows that this is not always the case.

Let me introduce you to Mueller’s “boys”

Because asking Manafort about his actions during the campaign – even if they have other evidence about those actions – is not a legitimate investigative reason? And, as people have been pointing out endlessly during the past months, even with email and surveillance records, having Manafort himself testifying would be more effective. Manafort had already copped a plea, had already promised full cooperation to further help the investigation and prosecution.

Perjury trap is more along the lines of they ask you, ostensibly as part of an investigation of entertainers, to testify about the clown you hired for your kid’s birthday and get you because you lied about the checking account you used to pay the clown.

But it’s impossible to run an elected official out of office, much less indict and convict the official, if the official doesn’t get elected in the first place. I’ll have to check the records but I think this is true in the vast majority of such cases.

A “perjury trap” is prosecutorial misconduct. It’s when a prosecutor asks someone an irrelevant question solely in order to trip them up.

“Pay the Clown.”

That name is reason enough for me to learn to play guitar badly and form a band. I’ll be right back.
