There’s nothing silly about it. There is a possibility Bill Clinton’s wife will come under Justice Department action. It’s not at all likely but the possibility exits and avoiding the appearance of impropriety is just as serious as avoiding impropriety outright. It was s a damn stupid thing to do and it sets up a huge bitchfest if HRC is found to have done nothing wrong.
I don’t imagine you appreciate “what ifs” when GOP’ers spew them. As for folks being “barred” from talking to each other come on. The husband of a potential Justice Department target just had a tete a tete with the AG. He isn’t barred from doing that. He isn’t barred from calling the AG a damn bitch either. Both are damn stupid to do though.
He walked across the tarmac and went into her plane to meet with her. It was obviously an awkward situation as she would have had to ask a former President of the United States and an old friend to please leave immediately in order not give any signs of impropriety from their encounter on her part. That’s what I call AWKWARD, but maybe not so much what I’d call ambushed. That does seem a bit harsh.
It’s none of that. It is merely stupid. It demonstrates a lack of discipline.
Impulse control has often been a problem for Bill. He needs to do better.
Sighing and shaking my head — “really?” is not panic. It’s resignation. We are not under any obligation to spin every word and act from our own candidates as brilliant or even adequate. Sometimes they make mistakes. We are grownups. Every criticism is not a betrayal.
Except that one time she met with the husband of a politician who was the subject of an investigation.
She has responded as well as possible to this, and I think odds are nothing nefarious happened (though, perhaps, not for lack of Bill trying). But what a horrendous, unnecessary breach of ethics.
This was a real mistake by Bill. It undercut Lynch and it strengthened the hand of the odious FBI Director Comey. Bill needs to sit down and STFU except when speaking from a podium from a good script.
They did “just meet on the Tarmac and left it at that”…
Then Trump makes a wet fart in a speech and we all come unglued as if this is the smoking gun that “will surely lead to our downfall! Oh woe! Oh dear! It’s all over! How will we ever stand up to this wet fart said by the WORLD’S most hated candidate!” And now like usual the Republicans get to feed us the narrative and we dutifully lap it up and lament that we’re “forced to do it” when we could just say… “Who gives a crap? Your candidate was making racist threats against a judge that is activly prosecuting him for fraud…in campagin speeches no less… in order to force the judge to recuse himself so he could get a “friendly” judge… This is really small potatoes comparatively”
Repeat after me…“I don’t give a shit about this non-story, the republican candidate is an incompetent shitbag… This won’t suddenly make him not an incompetent shitbag”
Vox has a pretty insightful take on the Lynch-Bill C. “meeting”. Basically, it’s a mirror, a template, of all the Clinton non-scandals, and the Clintons no longer give a damn about the optics or the press’ reaction. And I tend to agree
But it appears one lesson the Clintons have taken from their treatment in the press is that they will be unfairly attacked at all turns, and that trying to modify their behavior to minimize that is pointless…
Think about it: If you’d been accused of murdering a close friend of yours who killed himself, accused of corruption because you lost money in a real estate deal that went south, pilloried for nepotism when you were really trying to clean up a White House office where the FBI had found financial improprieties, and on and on and on, wouldn’t you feel like there was nothing you could do to prevent the media and Republicans from attacking you?
You see this in all manner of Clinton mini scandals: her speeches to Goldman Sachs, the Clinton Foundation’s foreign fundraising, the emails. You’d think it would be obvious to a potential presidential candidate that taking money from the most hated bank in America is a bad idea — but if that candidate were convinced the media would savage her no matter what she did, then the case for just taking the money starts to make a lot more sense.
That seems like the simplest explanation for Bill Clinton reaching out to Lynch too. Maybe he did realize it would look bad. But given how he and Hillary think about their treatment by the press, maybe he just didn’t care.
And with that, I’m taking a few days off from the craziness.
Bill Clinton had a meeting with Ted Cruz on the tarmac when both were traveling during the campaign. Bill’s a social guy - Ted’s colleague’s wouldn’t even give him the time of day, but Bill can carry the conversation
And since you will not be around to read this, let me just add that (generically) that, notwithstanding the fact that this could have been handled better, one should simply step back and LOOK at the respective candidates.
The fact that Trump is polling greater than 25%-35% is an outrage and a sign of malpractice by those whose charge is informing the public. That is why the Press was mentioned in the Constitution.
Works for me. To me, it’s the people constantly crying wolf that are not to be believed and discounted.
First, you’d have to have some sort of belief that the email thing is anything in the first place in order to think that Bill is trying to influence an outcome.
And considering the fact that not one single conspiracy has ever amounted to anything, then why give a moments interest to this next croc-o-shit in line.
There is no email issue, it’s all make believe and that has been proven. Quit playing along and getting sucked into the intended purpose y’all.
Imagine if Bill did NOT meet with the AG. What has he got to hide? Why the snub? Another day, another Clinton “scandal” and our media darlings can’t resist grabbing a hold of the slime and analyzing it. Don’t blame Fox. The assholes at NBC, ABC, CNN and others are as eager to get a “story”. They can’t help themselves.
