From everything we’ve heard so far we Democrats have a good chance of getting the senate back in 2016 (then we’ll move on the uncertainty of midterm turnout in 2018). Democrats also believe they can get the 30 votes nationwide to turn the House blue, once again installing Pelosi as majority leader as was reported the SF Chronicle yesterday and it would be attributed to the trumpet effect. Some excerpts:
Democrats need a net gain of 30 seats to retake the majority, and they are far from confident they can do it, but for the name at the top of the Republican ticket.
Thirty seats is “a big number, but every day things kind of tilt that way in large part because of the Republican nominee,” said Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, a close Pelosi ally. “Trump is not only frightening Democrats, he’s frightening Republicans — Republican officeholders,” Thompson said, referring to wide GOP condemnation of Trump’s comments last week that an Indiana-born judge is too biased because of his Mexican heritage to preside over the legal case involving Trump University.
California’s primary results underscore the problem facing GOP incumbents, not just in heavily Latino districts in the San Joaquin Valley, but as far south as Rep. Darrell Issa’s suburban San Diego County seat, considered safely Republican in a normal year.
And what are black voters coming out to vote for? So their city can look like Detroit, Chicago, Newark, or Milwaukee? More black voters than ever are done with the Democrat house negroes like Obama and Corey Booker and getting off the Democratic plantation. They want the wall to stop non-citizens from taking their jobs, and they want the right to arm themselves. This article is a joke.
No they don’t. Reporting indicates that they are weaker than ever and may very well be on the verge of folding as a party. Their fund raising continues to decline, their registered voters tallies have taken a precipitous drop.
The 3rd party that is in “ascendance” this year is the Libertarian party, which is massively out performing in polling and fund raising, comparative to past years.
That is cause of concern from the GOP, not the Democrats.
Active on the campaign trail, Obama will be an irresistible target for Trump’s calumnies (ISIS Conspiracy just today). If AA voters need any additional incentive to flock to the polls for Hillary, Trump will provide. Obama will bait him
It shouldn’t be. The Libertarians will not garner a single seat in Congress, nor will the garner a single electoral vote in the EC.
There is scant evidence to support an assertion that the GOP base is turning libertarian. Paul, the most “libertarian” leaning candidate actually turned away from his father’s positions, towards more republican points of view…and still got blown out.
But the real problem is, Libertarians don’t take themselves seriously…that’s why they don’t run down ticket candidates often. Its about making a statement, and providing cover for conservatives that like to get stoned to not call themselves republican.
Any bump they are getting is basically the “NeverTrump” movement, and I suspect on election day they will end up with less than 5% of the vote.
Davey as long as that is the case then I’m fine. I just don’t want to see a wave of Libertarian wins in Donald’s wake. As long as they are just making statements then they can make all of those they want.
Trump’s foray into the Birther Zone pretty much sealed his fate with black folks. Adding to the fact that he seemingly can’t help himself from denigrating others, he’s on a fast track to self implosion in my neck of the woods. Even the Phanatic gets higher polling than Donnie.
Here in PA, Toomey is carrying around the leg iron of the Garland nomination. Yes, the AL portion of PA will go to Trump. But he’s going to have rough ride through Philly and it’s suburbs. The same with Pittsburgh. So goes Philly, so goes the state.
Minorities know not to vote for Trump. The white woman voter has the power to defeat Trump by voting for Clinton. With them it could be a blow-out big enough to reach down ticket and clip the power of the GOP who deserve to collapse due to their candidates during this election.
I understand the Libertarians are up to about 12% and might make it to 15% and debate eligible, but the Bernie supporters on social media are talking about doing one of three things. One is voting for Hillary, most will. The second is sitting at home. A waste of enthusiasm. The third is voting for a third party, most commonly mentioned are the Libertarian party and the Green party. The Libertarians don’t seem to be a fit for Bernie’s people so many are looking at the Green party. According to one poll about 24% of Americans still want somebody other than Hillary or Trump. I know that in the end most of them will settle on one or the other candidates or sit at home. I want Hillary to win by the biggest margin possible in a big turnout election, because I want to win down ballot elections. Winning the presidency is not the only prize this election.
Personally I am trying to think about what the new Republican party is going to look like after Trump’s flame out. That depends on how the Democrats take advantage of 2016. We need to generate a wave. Kick the Republicans while they are down and keep them down.
About the worst fit imaginable for socialists. alright. The Libertarians want to privatize everything and the socialists want to move everything from private to government ownership. Diametrically opposed is what they are.
Let’s see black voter turnout set a new record in 1996, then broke it in 2000, broke that record in 2004, broke that record in 2008, and then broke that record in 2012. But yup it’s all about Obama on the ballot, I wonder if people who think that even know any black people.
