Discussion: How Trump Could Help Clinton Win Black Voters At Obama Levels

Just out of fear, people donā€™t want to wake up Wednesday morning and find out they did it to themselves." (Charlie Rangel, D-NY)

Oh so right you are, Congressman. In an unintended way, Trump will more than cement another eight years of Democratic control of the White House.

And maybe even a (longer-lasting) supermajority* again!

*At least in the Senate, but maybe (hopefully) the memory of Trump will keep turnout from having a massive dropoff in the midterms too.

The Blacks LOVE Trump. Youā€™ll see. He gives them jobs cleaning the ā€œFor Rentā€ signs in the windows of his shuttered casinos. Mike Tyson has endorsed THE GREATEST MAN EVER TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT, and so has the hair part of Don King. DON KING!!! The Blacks love that! And he keeps the Mexicans out (who also LOVE Trump ā€“ but for different reasons).

I think it would be funny if not so twisted when you hear stuff like a Republican strategist ā€œwarnā€ down ballot Republicans that black people will be voting.

As a white guy, I imagine what it would feel like if I lived in a majority non-white voting district and the strategist for a non-white candidate running told the candidate ā€œbe warned- lots of those minority white people might vote!ā€ Itā€™s a tacit admission that the status quo is to ignore minority voters.

And remember, her opponent empowers the KKK.

It would be very satisfying to see drumpf go down to a really ignominious defeat.

Not that would really ā€œmake America Great Againā€!

Iā€™m counting on it!

So, basically, black people somehow can recognize a stone racist who calls on racist white people, in an enraged frenzy over having to live under the tyrannical heel of a blackity black black president forced upon them by mere votes, to oppress minorities? And they see him as racist even though many white peopleā€“and the wired-white MSMā€“are somehow clouded and uncertain and seeing nuances about whether heā€™s really, truly for real racist? And they even perceive it to be urgently in their self-interest to stop him even though other minorities are the racistā€™s ostensible target, as if they figure that racism and bigotry arenā€™t selective and will get around to them eventually?

Huh. Crazy. Next thing you know, youā€™ll tell me that Jewish and Asian-American voters are engaging in much the same kind of analysis. Almost as if they somehow, by some mysterious force, know things about bigotry that white Normal, Regular Americans donā€™t.

Itā€™s all a big impenetrable mystery isnā€™t it?

Any black voter today voting GOP should probably be institutionalized. Itā€™s no longer 1870ā€¦DUH!

So long as Obamaā€™s mistake isnā€™t repeated by trying to play nice. Ram it down the Repugs throats in the first two years of office and get the entire judiciary filled. Get as much done as possible in that first two years. More importantly, work really hard on getting the white vote solidified behind Dems. Hillary knows how to game it.

Bill Clinton is not as popular with the black community today, in the Black Lives Matter era, as he used to be, although Iā€™m not sure that will matter. Black voters are still for the most part very reliable Dem voters and while thatā€™s not exactly ironclad, Republicans have done nothing to change that. Nothing can, or really should, be compared to 2008 numbers anywhere, but Obama vigorously campaigning for Hillary is definitely a huge asset.

Llol Itā€™s like we somehow have a sense about these things! I read and occasionally post in some of the black womenā€™s hair care forums (the struggle really is real!) and back last summer or early fall someone posted an OT picture of a black baby being kissed by Trump. The reaction was across the board rage. Some were trying to identify the mother in order to call CPS, others were (figuratively) looking for a hair tie and somebody to hold their earrings, and not one single person defended the mother or Trump. From what Iā€™ve seen, black people absolutely hate Trump with a passion.

I donā€™t think anyone can overestimate how disgusted most black people were with Trumpā€™s demands for President Obamaā€™s birth certificate or his incessant need to insult him. I think it was clear to most of us that all of it was about the presidentā€™s blackness and not about policy or anything else, especially as we learned that Trump had been a Democrat, and a somewhat liberal one, until about 1/20/2009. So, itā€™s not like black opposition to Trump only came about after he decided to run for president. But I think itā€™s gotten even worse partly as his denigration of the president has gotten worse but also as heā€™s begun attacking other racial groups.

One of the biggest stories of the 2012 election, a story that never got much oxygen, was Obamaā€™s share of the Asian vote. He got something like 77% of the Asian vote, which was puzzling at first glance. Asians tend to be better educated and better off financially than white folks. In just about every measure, they perform better than all other racial groups. Plus, they were never the topic of any debate during the campaign that one could point to as particularly insulting to them. What Josh Marshall and other folks who took informal polls of the subject discovered was that all the dog whistles aimed at blacks and Latinos were heard loud and clear by Asians too. Thatā€™s the same problem the GOP is going to have with Asians this year and the same problem theyā€™re also going to have with black voters. It doesnā€™t matter that Trump is mostly trashing Mexicans and Muslims, we know how this story goes and we know how it ends. We know it never ends well for us. We know that when you start out first hating Obama, then Mexicans and Muslims, it wonā€™t be long at all before you start telling us ā€œabout the Negroā€.

Iā€™d say the black vote for Democrats is about as ironclad as a voting bloc can be. And Republicans have done just about everything possible to strengthen that alliance. The only thing they havenā€™t done is to tell black voters not to vote for them, to vote for Democrats instead.
