Discussion: GOP Rep: Obama Wants To "Get Back At Israel" To Fulfill "Liberal Fantasies"

Petey, you’re getting into Glenn Beck territory, again. Better have them adjust your meds.

Ally? Please name the Treaty of Alliance. And when did the Senate vote to approve it?

But wouldn’t that make Obama Jewish? Hmm, a Jewish Mooslim, who’d’a thunk it?

The extent of the over-heated rhetoric this week about Israel leads me to suspect that a) Netanyahu’s speech is never going to happen, and folks like King know it and b) the wingut brigade senses that they have finally lost any ability to influence this White House. They’re desperate at this point.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Representative Peter King (R-IRA).

Nah. They’ll insist that Muslims killed Jesus. Who needs history?

Except for the facts that the American Jewish community has traditionally voted Democratic higher than 70%; and that Repubs don’t need to switch a majority of the entire Jewish community, most of whom reside in New York and California, but only enough voters in battleground states like Florida.

He’d look just like Rude-y

Yeah, not so much snarky as just not articulating my ideas clearly enough and sounding stupid hehe. What’s “new” about it…and what I was really reacting to …is the level of fervor with which they’re approaching it all, the level of desperation, how far they’re suddenly willing to go, etc., and how it seems to relate to the heightened fervor of their “omg brown people are taking over” hissy fit that was renewed and kicked into high gear by the election of a black man as POTUS.

This makes even less sense than most Peter King statements, and that’s saying something!

What is it about Irish Catholic Republican blowhards who make sense one minute out of every sixty that makes them want to be goysplainers?

I’m not sure I agree completely with that take. I mean, I certainly agree there’s an element of the whole prophecy mumbo jumbo involved, but I just think that it’s not the whole story. For some, it might be the old “enemy of my enemy” alliance because Muslims…but I think there’s also a real ingrained, indoctrinated feeling of brotherhood with Israel that pervades our society, partly because WWII was such a big part of what we were taught in history classes in school because it was such a great way to indoctrinate patriotism and pride by touting Amurika’s achievements in “saving the world” and “saving the Jews” and “putting an end to the horror of the Holocaust” etc. Most intelligent folks get taught all that and then grow up to foster an objective take on it all. BUT, when it comes to the typical folks in the GOP/Teatroll base, that gets kicked up a notch…BAM!..cartoon belief system! Because with them, there’s a real element of the sort of mindless nationalistic, patriotic pride the GOP/Teatroll ideology relies on, so when you raise the issue of Israel, the nationalistic pride becomes entirely intertwined with their views on the subject. We are Israel’s protectors…we saved them and the world…it’s part of what proves our divine right to police the world and tell countries full of brown people what to do and where to stick it etc. To fail in protecting Israel now, be it from real threats or from imaginary boogeymen cooked up by the MIC and fossil fuel industries as a means of engaging in further corporate imperialism in the middle east…well…that kind of failure would threaten that perceived national identity for these “patriots” and that’s just unacceptable to them.

Unfortunately his IQ can just as easily be measured with a thermometer.

I’m pretty sure that the folks in Israel really appreciate Peter King and the rest of the GOP’s attempt to destroy the almost universal support from its most important ally. Way to go King and Boehner, American jews will never forget that your hate for Obama trumped the welfare of Israel.

“Dems hate Jews!” Does that mean the anti-semitic GOP dumb shit base will become democrats?

Yeah, NONE of his alleged liberal fantasies that you pantywaists have been prophesying for SIX YEARS have yet to assume any concrete form. Saul Alinsky! Saul Alinsky!

Dear Pete,

A few points for you to consider:

  1. Getting back at Netanyahu is not the same as getting back at Israel. Netanyahu tried to undermine Obama’s reelection campaign and now is trying to undermine his foreign policy. Netanyahu is not Israel. Israel will be there long after Netanyahu is gone.

  2. The fact that we give Israel more money than any other country does not make them “our greatest ally”. It makes them the greatest dead weight that we have to carry. If Israel were our greatest ally, they would be cutting back on settlements in the West Bank instead of building more.

  3. Your fantasies about Obama’s fantasies are not Obama’s fantasies.

You might be right, Snif, but at the same time, I think you’re argument gives a large swath of ignorant mindless people way too much credit for a rational evolution of thought, which is something I’m not willing to do myself.
