Discussion: Frustrated Democrats Stonewalled During Hicks Testimony By DOJ Lawyer

Proper procedure. If nothing else, by my observation as a non lawyer, the law is all about following proper procedure.

Dems want to see various people from the regime testify. Dems got Hicks to show up. She showed up and said nothing.

How would the contempt charge change that calculation on her part? What do you believe would be enforcement against the regime?

Really how does that work? The DOJ enforcing a questionable claim of executive privilege. Explain how that makes the DOJ, the people’s DOJ look good. .

Seriously this happened. I do not see how this stands up anywhere.

She was present for a lot. She was present for example on Air Force One when Donald Trump himself drafted the false statement about Donnie Jr’s Trump Tower Meeting.

To answer @srfromgr- I am pretty sure she has her own damn lawyer. Might be paid by Trump Reelection Committee like other miscreants from the Admin. But the DOJ lawyer would have been there anyway. This is their plan.

I am hoping I live long enough to see a Democratic President with a GOP Majority in both houses take these positions from the Seinfeld Soup Nazi- No Oversight For You! Across the board. Every single issue. Every single witness.

The pointless proceedings and toothless actions in this Congress are a joke. The folks who went out and voted in the 2018 election are being betrayed by incompetence and lack of spine.

Give her immunity and kick the DOJ lawyer out of the room.

Folks there is good news in all if this …you do not have to follow the law, pay attention to legal precedent ,exhibit an affinity for seeing the long term interests of the American republic if you have enough money and powerful allies…Dictator Don has spoken and he ain’t listening to anyone who makes sense or even those that have the law on their side.

Allowing the DOJ lawyers to intimidate and stonewall goes explicitly against “proper procedure”.

The President stood beside Putin in Helsinki and flatly stated he believed the word of Putin over his own intelligence agencies.

Now, how does any aspect of anything any of us have heretofore known or experienced mean anything, anything at all?

The real obstacle, in my estimation, are those MoCs who are from districts much bluer than that of Katie Porter and who have done very little.

Hope is a private citizen, wouldn’t she be represented by her private lawyers? Why is the DOJ, who works for all of us, representing her and interfering in the hearing?

People are always talking about upholding “rule of law” and what are Dems going to do about it. That’s what House Democrats are trying to do right now but upholding the rule of law really requires that both parties see a point in abiding by the law (i.e., proper procedure) and agree that it’s necessary.

Republican Presidents are not subject to the law in the last four years of their term. Mitch McConnell says so.

Hold her in Contempt of Congress and have the Sargeant-at-arms arrest her and start slapping on fines, when it hurts in the pocketbook she will talk.
Susan McDougal spent months in jail for less.

Was Hope Hicks wearing a Blue Dress?

Regarding the quoted tweet: it is highly frustrating to say something like “I think Pelosi probably has better political instincts than you or I” and have otherwise-sensible people hear something like “you’re saying I’m not allowed to question Pelosi’s leadership!!!1”. These two statements are obviously not the same.

Of course people can and should question whoever the hell they want, but I think Pelosi is a better politician than I am, and I try to maintain some degree of intellectual humility when discussing the House’s ongoing battles with the executive branch. Other folks on the internet can go ahead and be the smartest guy in the room, if that’s what they’d like.

This stonewalling by Hope Hicks at the behest of a White House attorney would have been helpful in the TV news cycle. But no, nobody gets to see it.

Sorry, I can’t help but feel like the House Dems got played.

Trump treats the people around him like servants, and the servants always know what’s really going on. I expect he was especially careless around his cute little brunette maid.
