Discussion: Florida Bakery Says It Got Threats After Refusing To Make Anti-Gay Cake

What use is that to an illiterate?

They arenā€™t playing victim here, they are playing Inquisition. They put forth an incredibly unreasonable demand, and when refused, sicced their dogs on themā€¦literally threatening them with death.

What they should do is introduce the Pastor to the place where his first amendment freedoms run smack into inciting violence.

Let me guessā€¦the threats consisted of ā€œHey,smarten up,we are taking our business elsewhere and that goes for our friends tooā€ Granted that may be threatening but warranted.

Seems like a great way for a failing business to get bigots to donate.

ā€œwhat Iā€™m curious about is who set up the gofundme account?ā€

A past associate of weasel James Oā€™Keefeā€¦ I wonder just how much of that money the Oā€™Conners will actually see and how much will ā€œunaccountably disappearā€ā€¦

Iā€™ve been thinking the same thing this last weekā€¦you can sell anything to stupid.

ā€œMe! Me! Do a Kickstarter for me! Iā€™m a victim! Honest! No evidence, but Iā€™m a Christian, so I must be telling the truth! Me! I need a million dollars right now for being a victim of the gay majority thatā€™s robbing us of our precious freedums!ā€

Yes. And I would have added a PFLAG brochure in the box.

This is a stupid straw-man argument. And for simpletons it look similar but when you look at the legalism, well is not. The Indiana law address the impact of a government requirement on people of faith by stating that the state cannot impose a mandate that is burdensome on such ā€œpeopleā€. But then it defines people outside of the realm of individual beings into the area of corporations, businesses and organizations. It also impose the same test on relations between individuals. Technically if I own a gas station, and I am a fundamentalist christian that believe mormons are apostates, I can conceivable deny service to that mormon, since I can claim it violates my deepest religious believe. What a lot of folks have fail to see here is that if that you can use religious freedom as a big club used to discriminate agains anybody you donā€™t like. That is state law, and that is the operational word. Discrimination sanctioned by the state. Now, the Florida preacher, well, he is entitle to take that baker to court if he feels discriminated in any way shape or form. Is not a religious issue. The baker did not say I am not serving you because you are a christian nutcase. I am not sure whether Florida has a FOR law in the books, but his grievance would not be addressed under a religious freedom statue. Comparing those two cases is bullcrap. Is demagoguery. Is not a controversy. This is just the kind of things that should drive thinking folks crazy!

This is another grifter trying to cash in on the bigot bounty but in reverse. Heā€™s hoping the left will be as credulous as the right. Though at least this person filed a police report which would make the claim of threats verifiable, unlike Memories Pizza (so far.)

Those bigots from Memories Pizza are made near millionaires from their national whine, there are going to be copycats across the country trying to cash in, such as the cafe owner saying she will serve adulterers but not gays.

I guess itā€™s okay since that means less money for conservative campaign contributions and these bigots paying these grifters would not have given the money to something humanitarian, so three cheers for scamming the bigots, but itā€™s is all a scam.

By the way, a pastor pulled this stunt in Colorado, too, requesting an anti-gay cake. The bakery refused. he filed a civil right claim and he just lost since they said they would refuse to bake that anti-gay cake no matter who asked for it.

It was always likely to come down to this.

When your ENTIRE IDENTITY is based on the false belief that YOU ARE THE VICTIM because you are not allowed to tell everyone else how to live their lives without them having the constitutional right to tell you to fuck off, this is what you get.
The American Taliban, demanding the POWER OF THE STATE to ENFORCE their right to ā€œstone non-believers to deathā€ just for the ā€œsinā€ of REMINDING THEM that everyone else thinks they are assholes.

Next weā€™ll hear this is a plot by nazi queers to take over the wedding industry.

Except the fact that his case began much sooner than Memories Pizza. But youā€™re right about the copycats, theyā€™re already starting to crawl out of the woodwork.

Amen to that. The pastor deliberately set a trap for this baker and unfortunately the baker fell for it.

ā€œFloridaā€ in the title leads me to believe this whole thing was concocted after seeing how much money there is to grift from the rubes regarding this issue. When itā€™s all said and done the anti-gay pizzeria will bank a million plus dollars Iā€™m sure. Iā€™ll bet there are ā€œSpecial offeringsā€ being passed around lots of churches today to fund various anti-gay works. I have long thought about doing a giant grift that involves this very hot button. Iā€™m disturbed that I would feel no guilt conning money from these types. Please offer words of discouragement.

Last I checked, the Indiana anti-gay bakery has received over $800K in online donations. In one week. While their doors are temporarily shuttered. Iā€™d like to think the owners are at least paying their staff while this is going on. .
.
It makes commercial sense for bigoted owners of small modestly successful businesses to try this same ploy.

LMAO if you were a cake shop?? settle down terence

About 8% off the top. Unless the money is going to a non-profit, the recipient is liable for taxes on any money their receive.
