Trump takes dump on chump. Again. Press eats it. Again.

I think Trump getting booed is probably a pretty telling moment in the campaign. Its another data point indicating two things…1) The Trump has probably reached his zenith and doesn’t have a lot of room to grow (but plenty to lose) and 2) Rubio is starting to emerge as the “real” GOP candidate.

The second point needs to be confirmed. Rubio seems to be the big winner in picking over the corpse of Walker’s campaign staff, and will probably be the big winner of his donors as well. He is starting to receive more press, continuing to be good press (Earlier he wasn’t receiving much attention, but was generally receiving positive press). And, in the all important Florida contest, latest polling has him pulling ahead of Bush (though both are still behind Trump)

But…Rubio has also benefited from the fact that it IS a crowded field and he doesn’t receive a lot of attention. Going forward he is going to be pushed beyond his memorized talking points If he flubs one or two off the cuff questions, he joins the pattern of boom and bust that is so familiar in GOP presidential politics. If he does reasonably well, support consolidates around him.

Trump’s “shtick” is getting very, very tired. I hope his grandiose self-righteousness has peaked and will now become an increasing liability for his aspirations. A jackass for a President? Really??

Well based on the GOP current political situation, he is weak on immigration and a faker since his family came through no problem and is denying others the same opportunity.

The thing is Rubio has shown time and time again he will flake when the moment hits, just like Carly. Trump is the only one who can take these kinds of shots constantly and keep moving forward. That’s just his personality.

And THAT will be a disaster. He’s a very shallow bot of a candidate, and under the surface there’s lots to worry about. It’s shocking he has failed up as far as he has already, but the petty corruption, and lack of charisma make him a flash in the pan candidate in my opinion.

At least this time, Trump is correct–Rubio is “weak” (as the GOP would view it) on immigration and he does have a poor attendance record.

At the end of the day, someone is going to emerge from the pack and get the Republican nomination. Either it’s going to be one of those who are simply unelectable (Trump, Cruz, Carson) or it will be a more mainstream candidate (Bush, Rubio). Hopefully, if the latter, the candidate will be so damaged from this primary process that he or she will not be able to get out the base vote in the numbers they will need to win. And in running to the right, each of these “mainstream” candidates makes it harder to capture any votes outside of the hardcore base.

I don’t know about that. I haven’t seen Rubio in action, but from what I’ve read, he’s an attractive candidate, with at least a modicum of charisma.

I think that he’s something of an intellectual and policy lightweight, but it’s not clear how much of a problem that will be in the nominating process or in the general election.

Trump’s topline assessment about Rubio being “weak on immigration” is correct. [Not for the primary reason he gives, but for Rubio’s unprincipled opposition to the comprehensive immigration reform bill that Rubio himself sponsored.] True to his offended bully personality disorder, Trump still manages to be a complete jerk even when telling the truth.

Donald J. Trump
:heavy_check_mark:
@realDonaldTrump

.@MarcoRubio is weak on illegal immigration and will allow anyone into the country.....

All Trump has are insults and lies. I hope that eventually his rabid followers wise up to that. I hate to go Godwin but this is the same exact methodology a certain evil asswipe used in Germany in the 1930’s to get elected and we all know how well that turned out…

Trump himself is weak on explaining anything in any detail beyond “I’ll be FABULOUS!! It’ll MAKE YER HEAD SPIN!!” Just like the used car salesman he is.

After a crowd booed GOP frontrunner Donald Trump for calling fellow Republican Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) a “clown,” Trump took to Twitter to double down on the attacks.

I tried to warn you, Donald:

Give me some millions. I’ll help you pound on the other GOP candidates.

He’s the white Don King- lol

But here is the thing…the establishment really doesn’t have many options. Bush is proving to be a very lackluster candidate. Kasich is gaining no traction, and there is just a mountain of issues waiting there anywhere, probably the most important is the platform he has defined for himself is perhaps the worst possible choice to run against Clinton (i.e. as the “chief architect” of a balanced budget and surplus). Christie is a dead candidate walking. Graham and Pataki are even more in the grave. Everyone else is either too anti-establishment or too pro evangelical to be seriously considered.

I agree with your assessment, with one fairly big caveat. He has proven that when seriously confronted and pushed off of the talking points, he melts faster than the Wicked Witch with a bucket of water thrown on her.

The question is can his handlers teach him enough phrases to use when pushed into that situation, that he can minimize the damage and move out of danger. He is good a memorizing lines.
