Discussion: Cruz: GOP Will Block Exec. And Judicial Nominees If Obama Acts On Immigration

I think they get it; Daniel just forgot to add the winky face.

And not one reporter ever points out to Cruz that Bush and Reagan had far more executive actions. Not one. Worst yet, reporters will now take Cruz’ talking points and turn them around into questions at the next WH press briefing and on the Sunday talk shows instead of questioning the fundamentals of the points themselves.

Surely, comrades, you don’t want Jones to return!

So this would be new how?

I think it has actually. Note: you said the population of Latino voters, not just the population of Latinos. As a result, we must include in the calculus some factor for how many of said Latinos have had their votes suppressed.

I think that’s missing an “except.”

One need only look to his father, Rafael, to explain Ted’s lunacy.

I believe he has entered his next life.

Cruz says, “the new Senate Majority Leader who takes over in January”

This leads me to think Mitch may not be what he thinks he is.

Depends on how you want to define “natural-born.”

To the Founders, it meant born in US territory.
To those who oppose Obama, it means born in US territory with two parents who were born the same way—with sworn witnesses.

To Cruz, it means whatever he says it means at any given moment.

Cruz is a US citizen because his mother is—but whether he is “natural-born” is open to much debate and discussion. If he runs for president, I foresee a great deal of back-and-forth about this issue.

I define it the same way the US Code does,.The Constitution only recognizes two kinds of citizenship: natural (i.e. a citizen at birth) and naturalized (i.e., not born a citizen but having been granted citizenship upon application).

8 U.S. Code § 1401 - Nationals and citizens of United States at birth
The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth:
…
(g) a person born outside the geographical limits of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents one of whom is an alien, and the other a citizen of the United States who, prior to the birth of such person, was physically present in the United States or its outlying possessions for a period or periods totaling not less than five years, at least two of which were after attaining the age of fourteen years

By law, Cruz is a United States citizen at birth. People can argue and discuss all they want, but that’s the way it is. Don’t believe everything you read on the birther web sites. There are only two types of citizens recognized by the Constitution, natural and naturalized. If you’re not one, you’re the other. Unless, of course, you’re not a citizen at all.

Of course that won’t stop him from running, because IOKIYAR

Exactly. Get in line, Ted. Every GOP member of Congress has 2 or 3 pet topics they want to advance by taking the appointees hostage.

Besides, isn’t the exec action on immigration supposed to lead to a government shutdown, an impeachment, defunding of every program Dems favor, and a lawsuit submitted to the Supreme Court?

It must be hell at Fox news right now figuring out which reaction they should be pushing for after Obama announces his plan.

I t is quite evident that all this ‘danger’ is really about the tea gops being in the soup…They have no intention of passing anything but BORDER SECURITY BS and the EO from President Obama puts them in the danger zone…The congress House under the gop bags let a bipartisan Bill gather dust for 18 months …with no guts or aptitude to put it on the floor…Now PRESIDENT OBAMA has allowed them to show their flabby arses as anti-Immgrant and anti-CHILDREN and anti-Women

No wonder they are freaking out daily! They got and have done nothing and it ssis in the headlights for all to see! Stupid stupid stupid…Delicious…

Grubergate nonsense is the new tea gop BENGHAZI…Vacuous…

All this GoOPer bragging about drastic steps they’ll surely take when something happens that they don’t approve… Someone’s going to get hurt in all that pushing and shoving to get in front of the cameras. Also oooh, boogedy, boogedy they’re so scary! They can relax. Obama’s not going to nominate anyone who’s not a corporatist or New Dem to anything above a deputy assistant!

Except the Senate no longer goes on recess, a tactic started by the Dem Senate to stop recess appointments by Bush.

Even if the Senate is conducting no business, and states that it will conduct business, it is in session, the Supreme Court agreed, if it says it is in session and it has the ability to conduct business if it chose to. The Supreme Court might allow appointments when the Senate is away more than 10 days, even if the Senate says it is in session, but that isn’t a certainty.

True. It’s a precedent set by the Dems over the appointment of Bolton.

Both parties are guilty of mindlessly setting some precedents that have com back to bite them lately.

But it felt so gooood at the time.

Please proceed, Senator jack*zz

Apparently. It’s simple. Not only is he a Republican, he is the darling of the Teanderthals, who have a big following in Texas (48% support, the highest in the nation). Texas hasn’t sent a Democrat to the Senate in over 20 years.

Cruz is a classic demagogue. He manipulates people through their fears. He often appears stupid, but in actuality he is sly, devious, and cunning and bears watching at all times. Or, as Shakespeare might have put it, “Yond Cruz has a lean and hungry look. He thinks too much; such men are dangerous.”
