Apparently, Sen. Cruz (R-Canada) missed this little story from TPM last August:
"Experts agree that the president has wide discretion to decide which migrants to target for deportation under the law enforcement theory of prosecutorial discretion. There are roughly 11 million immigrants in the U.S. illegally and officials have to prioritize which ones to remove. The Supreme Court reaffirmed that wide latitude in the 2012 ruling Arizona v. US, in which the justices said key provisions of Arizona’s strict immigration law ran afoul of federal supremacy in the area.
“Removal is a civil matter, and one of its principal features is the broad discretion exercised by immigration officials, who must decide whether to pursue removal at all,” wrote Justice Anthony Kennedy in the majority decision, joined by four other justices."
No one ever heard me claiming he was stupid. Nor do I think he’s just a cynical opportunist. He was, and remains, “that guy” in law school who insisted on filtering everything through his rigid right wing dogma and, because, he was absolutely right, wasn’t afraid of being deemed an asshole.
Well, seeing that old Joe was buried in the frozen north, and Cruz was born just accross the border in Canada, who’s to say they didn’t dig the old buzzard up and put his DNA into Teddy boy. I mean making your lip snarl like that is a genetic thing, so I think that right there is plenty of evidence to prove they are the same person.
I still think Cruz has spent his whole life trying to prove he’s not Mexican. And I’d bet there’s been more than one incident on some record that proves it.
Yes, I agree. My second paragraph wasn’t addressed specifically to you but was more of a statement of belief for general consumption. And, yes, he is more than just a cynical opportunist. He is a dangerous cynical opportunist, as many people have pointed out very much in the mold of the late Joe McCarthy, who didn’t care how many people’s lives were destroyed by his opportunism. Far from being afraid of being deemed an asshole, he revels in it. He has repeatedly stated that he didn’t come to Washington to make friends. In this, he has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams.
That’s not paradoxical, it’s the totally douchey way that Republicans try to frame their various blackmail attempts – “We told him we’d shut down the government if he did x, and he did x anyway, so he’s the one who shut down the government. Nyah nyah.”
I’m guessing that attaching poison pills to critical bills to force the President’s hand is not exactly among the “potent tools” the Framers had in mind.
Do Cruz need any excuse to urge halting all nominations? I thought it was the general MO of all Republicans to halt, stop & block everything the president does, at every opportunity, no matter what the consequences.
If only we had a lawless president, and not just one that Cruz disagreed with. See, that’s their problem. They equate anything they dislike as illegal, and that not how it is.
If the Repuk’s hate the government so much why are they still a part of it? they should resign instead of living off the government’s tit nothing but a bunch of takers.
