Discussion: Cook Political Report Predicts Dems Will Win Up To Seven Senate Seats

as the 538’s polls-plus, polls-only, and if election was now close tighter, the uncertainty factor becomes much less. would like to see that continue in their senate polls as well.

Indeed. I was just looking at the 2018 Senate line-up, 23 Democratic seats (+2 Independents) for re-election vs. only 8 Republican-held seats. That’s a lot of territory to defend.

I want November 8th to be an injection of chemo therapy into the body politic that washes away the hate the racism the nonsense of the congress that we have had to put up with for the last 6 years. Wipe the Teaparty clowns out…send Mitch McConnell down to the basement toilet Send Paul Ryan right next to him…And Rep Jordan from Ohio… and that idiot Daryl Izza and Jason Chavetz…Blackburn of Tennesee…and the rest of the clown patrol!!

Texas started early voting yesterday. In my county, which has a total population just over 2,000, I was the 162nd voter as of yesterday afternoon. A good sign, I think.

Well, well Ms. Brewer, so much for “they don’t vote” huh? Thanks for the democratic GOTV plug, witch. Between you and Trump, the Latino community has been hugely inspired. They’re registered. They’re voting. They will continue to vote. FROM NOW ON. Nice job!

Yep - that’s gonna be crunch time. if the Dem base reverts back to what they normally do, it’s replay of PBO’s tenure again.

I’m hoping (REALLY hoping) that Dems can continue to tie Rump to Senate Rethugs OR feral trumpers get so cocky, they nominate their own deranged followers to primary the R’s from the right.

Two people I want to see gone from the Senate: Ayotte and Rubio.

Honey, voter turnout yesterday in Texas broke all previous records by almost double the numbers. Turnout is ridiculous so far in Texas.

Something like 58,000 people turned out and voted in Dallas Co and the previous record was roughly 36,000.

I saw a ceviche truck in my neighborhood a couple of weeks ago (in CO, formerly a swing state but not so much this year!).

No, that doesn’t save you from your egregious sin. You wrote: “Cook isn’t ‘reporting’ they are ‘predicting’.” You’ve got a singular verb in the first half and a plural verb in the second.

IF you’re talking about the use of “they” as the noun, I truly believe that it has moved into the language as a singular, gender neutral substitute for he or she or one. Since everyone knows what is meant and agrees, then that usage is becoming normalized. That’s how language evolves.

Brain fart. You are correct. I was thrown off by Reid saying a day or two ago that they would go nuclear on the Supreme Court if needed. Dunno why he was saying that when the Dem majority won’t happen until after he has left office in January.

Ya mean like the famous “Gang of 6” which worked on healthcare reform? With Chuck Grassley as one of the “bipartisan” members? Yes, I have great confidence that, especially if Grassley is reelected, bipartisan will suddenly become the thing and all tough legislation coming from the Clinton administration will be enacted the way is was for Obama in his first term. Like the bipartisan support for ACA and ACA reform enacted as part of the 50+ repeal and then maybe - when pigs fly - replace to make it better movement by the GOP-led house and then both chambers. Not holding my breath, even if it would make me more blue…

Because there’s likely to be more than one opening in the next few years.

Funny, I had exactly this conversation with my daughter the other day, in the context of new gender pronouns. I’m old school on this, I guess. But in any event, the greatest sin was the lack of verb agreement - either it’s all plural or all singular, not one in the first half and the other in the second half!

True. But IF “they” used in this way as singular, shouldn’t the verb be “is”? Wow, wouldn’t that sound weird?

There will be a temporary absence of taco trucks while the operators and their suppliers comply with new Clinton rules and convert to Halal products and practices.

Once the current congress adjourns at the end of the year, the legislation slate is wiped clean and everything starts over. With only a couple of weeks to receive, review and enact any presidential nominations, this would seem to not be likely. The new senate sets its own rules, so they could theoretically do anything, but there will be at most a small majority and lots of ways for GOP to obstruct such a move, and then act even worse than they have in recent years.
