Discussion: Beto Raises $6.1M In First 24 Hours Of Campaign, Surpassing Other Candidates

And add in the religious folks, and it’s a perfect storm.

Pete’s best angle on this may be gearing up for 2032 or so, by raising his visibility, possibly getting up to Congress or the Senate in the next few years, then making a play. We’ve made a lot of progress in the last couple of decades, but there’s still definitely a ways to go.

I doubt that Trump will be running for anything in the Fall of 2020.

Sigh. Good point.

Yep, folks on the left often tend to think of white conservatives as the only devout Christians in this country. They’re really not. Black and brown people tend to be more religious and more engaged with their churches than whites.

Well yeah I’m hoping Donald is soon jailed for treason, but Rs will still probably be running Pense and maybe a woman VP, but a woman that says or does things that indicate she believes men are better than women. White men anyway.

I hope that you are right.

People said that about a black president too…

If anyone could make this country ready, I think Buttigieg could make this country ready. Like I said earlier, he’s already reaching out to Fox News viewers.

ETA: And as far as our black and brown population - most families (even black and brown families) have an LGBT member whom they love and have come to accept. For me (and I know I’m coming from a different viewpoint than the voters who he would need to win over) the thing about Pete is that when he’s talking, the last thing that I see about him is his sexual orientation.

I don’t think Mother would allow Pence to have a woman running mate. She’d have to chaperone every time they were in a room together and that would leave her no time to pursue her own career making pine-cone Christmas ornaments or whatever the fuck it is she does.

Uh Oh! Beto beat Bernie. Expect Republican talking points about O’Rourke to be disseminated by Jane His Wife.

One thing I’ll certainly say for Biden is he’s known sorrow and talks about it with moving wisdom. He wouldn’t tell the victims of a natural disaster to “have a good time.”

And it took 44 years after the Civil Rights Act for that to happen… We’re not even 4 years since the Supreme Court struck down gay marriage bans.

The candidates bring ideas with them. These ideas will be incorporated into our plank in the General. Sounds exciting to me.

Especially being that the Planet is depending on us. One thing we ALL must adhere to:

We must remove the GOP from the White House in 2020. We no longer have the time for Sarandoning.

I liked Beto when he was running in Texas, but the more he’s on the national stage the more centrist he seems. When you are running against a craven, lying asshole like Ted Cruz, you could eat babies on live television and still look moderate. For some reason, Beto just doesn’t grab me. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think so.
I prefer someone like Pete Buttegieg. But I don’t think either have the stuff to get the nom, but I sure would like to see Pete get the VP slot. He would be the perfect antidote to that prick Pence, and would surely bring out his rampant homophobia, along with the same bigotry of Trump and the GOP, out into the forefront during the campaign. Besides, Buttegieg looks and sounds great on TV, and I am sure he could hold his own against anyone, even some fat-ass who Tweets from his toilet.

Exactly.

You have data to support that? Not being snarky, but that’s far from what I’ve seen and read.

No I don’t have data. I just see my own family and friends.

After my mom died suddenly in 2015, I cannot express the comfort I found in Uncle Joe’s talks about grief. I’m welling up just thinking about it. He made me feel less alone.

If it’s anyone but Trump for the Republicans in 2020, his Deplorable base will cause internecine bloodshed, both literally and figuratively. The Republican Party will implode if Trump’s not the nominee. Anyone but Trump will be considered a “cuck or RINO”.

If won’t matter that Trump may be prevented from running because of legal problems or resignation. It’s Trump’s party now,

I thought Beto would come closest to Bernie. Wasn’t sure whether he would beat his number.

Beto has delivered what I wanted out of his first weekend as a candidate. He is shaking up the race and how the media cover our primary out of the gate. He’s a force of nature on the campaign trail, commenting on everything, drawing cameras, attention and news cycles. Even though he gives some stupid answers at times, he’s also filling those airwaves with some very thoughtful and nuanced responses. It’s a bit of a show and the GOP hates that because he’s providing a news cycle source that takes attention away from them.

Bernie and Biden will also be concerned because if he has staying power, the youth, energy and passion that Beto displays can outrun them over a long primary. That said, I do think that Beto’s presence opens things up for the female candidates. Beto’s show is a bit of a spectacle. The female candidates can advance their agenda, vision and personality and demonstrate that each of them is every bit as good or better than Beto, Biden and Bernie. Given that 60%-65% of our electorate will be female and/or POC, they actually have the power to drown out the noise and just vote for the female/POC candidate they think is best for the job and best to take on Trump, while the 3 men fight over a diminishing pie.

The field is nearly set. We’ll see how it all unfolds.

Very damn impressive resume. However, not too many mayors of smallish cities with populations of about a 100,000 are going to have the credentials to serve as president. I’d like to see him at least serve in Congress first. I know, he’s better qualified than Trump.
I’m thinking he’d make a great pick for VP. It would give him some experience and have more exposure on the national stage.
For all we know, the gay thing could end up being a plus. The country is a changing.
