Indeed! It’s stunning how many of the knee jerk reactions to each and every one of these horrific attacks (in whatever form) are along the line of: “We need to become just like, or at the least, more like the ‘horror’ we are facing in order to confront and combat it.”

Cops have been behaving like an occupying force in a hostile country for years. It would appear as though they may have succeeded in making it true to some extent. But the police haven’t suddenly changed their behavior in just the last few years. It is just the fact that almost everybody has a cell phone with camera/video nowadays means that their behavior is much harder to hide from the general public. Add to this the tendency of police officers to back up fellow officers bogus stories only to be exposed as lies by video of the incident and the whole “it’s just a few bad apples” excuse stops cutting it. I am not saying that I agree with the people that shot the cops, just that the actions of the police are the reason there are protests and their refusal to adjust their behavior is the likely driving force behind this ambush. The police need to remember that they are there to protect and serve the public and that respect is not given it is earned.
In other words the police need to win the hearts and minds of the public because it is really hard to protect and serve a public that is terrified of you.

This is the worst disaster possible for addressing the problem. Already for a large number of people the very phrase “Black lives matter” was somehow provocative. If we aren’t entirely sure as a society that every citizen ought to have an equal chance of surviving an encounter with the police, a sniper attack that kills five officers isn’t going to help much.
There’s another conversation we’ll be unlikely to have—the degree of mayhem and death a couple of people with military-style weapons can create. Or the tension the proliferation of guns causes for police when they talk to a citizen on a corner or in a traffic stop. The greater the general concern, the more deaths you’ll get from cops whose judgment and reflexes are on the poorer end of the continuum.
But none of that will matter for a long time. And this happened in a city that I just read was a model for police reform. Earlier that day:

Orlando was perpetrated against gays, a segment of our population that many believe are deserving of all the ills of the world.
This was against LEO doing their jobs at a Black Lives Mater rally.
Of course the media will paint this one as worst, because underneath it all is the quiet belief by some elites that BLM is a thug organization.
They have no interest in focusing on the premeditation and anger that created this attack. It won’t fit the narrative.

Just listening to the press conference just held by the Dallas police chief ,having my back turned and listening to his description of the fallen officers,he could have been describing many of the victims who have been killed by police.
They were hardworking ,family people ,had decent jobs etc,etc.Just saying when this happens to the so called other side it should be looked at differently.

The police unions are complicit in this. The traditional union-busting role of the cops, however, does not apply, for some reason.
The shooters were not protesters. They were killers who want to start a race war. This was an attack on the Black Lives Matter rally. The targets were police officers, but they were keeping the peace at the rally. This is a time for American solidarity.

During the march last night, Dallas police were posing for photos with the marchers. The first officer to die was a Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) officer. A homeless person was interviewed on Dallas TV last night after hearing the news. The homeless man was in tears as he described how the officer was one of the “good ones” who didn’t hassle the homeless and would even give them passes to ride on mass transit so they could get to shelters.
