Almost no one doubts that the snipers, if convicted, will be facing a death sentence. The trouble is that almost no one thinks the police in Baton Rouge and Minnesota will even see the inside of a cell.

And there hasn’t been a more divisive political figure in the Texas statehouse than Abbott, from his catering to the fear and paranoia-fueled Jade Helm nutjobs to his repeatedly saying that Obama is running a “lawless liberal” administration and wants to seize all guns to saying Texas might secede from the Union.
Damn, I regret that Molly Ivins, who dubbed Texas the “National Laboratory for Insanely Bad Government,” isn’t around to comment on this latest batch of crazy to come out of the Lone Star State.
The weapons’ grade Republican stupid that runs that state is breathtaking. Now will come the Republican deflection: They will point their blood soaked fingers at Black Lives Matter, the protests, blow their racist dog whistles and say the President is fomenting this by commenting on it…and their knuckle dragging, mouth breathing “base” will cheer it on and shout, “The only way to stop all this gun violence is making sure everyone is well armed.”
It doesn’t take a trip to the Delphic Oracle to know how this will go.
The Daily Mail makes it sound like the shooting was part of the protest, instead of a calculated manipulation of the protest environment. And that’s only the first problem with this report.

The national conversation is going to turn on a dime. And its not going to be taking up the line of thinking you are bringing up. Its going to go massively pro cop and anti BLM. Any discussions that were being spurred on by the LA and MN shootings are ended now. Stastical information like…the number of US citizens killed by police officers is dramatically on the rise and the number of police officers killed in the line of duty is hovering around all time lows…will be discarded. The press is already running with “Worst disaster since 9/11”.

Fortunately, Texas has capital punishment. Although, obviously a hate crime, 1st degree murder will get the job done. My choice, though, would be god old Western justice…a tall tree and a short rope.

Which people seemingly have difficulty fathoming. It is unfair, but that’s the way it is. The BLM phenomenon, as well as rallies in which African Americans and other minorities are prominent, will absorb a tremendous blow, thanks to these snipers.
Throughout the night I was unclear as to the racial identity of the snipers.
In terms of “optics”, going forward, the only way that this could come out any differently would have been that all the snipers were white supremacists. And since this is Texas, I doubt if anyone is interested in talking about the NRA. Moreover, the Right will try to use Mr. Obama’s very reasoned and compassionate initial remarks on the LA and MN shootings as Talking Points.
Minorities Cannot Do What White People Can Do. That is a fact and one which can be absorbed ONCE and then dealt with constructively in one’s life to achieve as much justice as humanly possible with one’s time on earth.
Finally, I was in the 1963 March on Washington, when people RALLIED. But they were rallying for one thing then which we ALREADY HAVE, in this Millennium: The Right To Vote. A right we now prefer to use at a 50% level, while still being hooked on rallies. The Right is content to go to a Trump rally, but before Trump, they could always be counted upon to vote NRA with Lake Superior Support**

This is pre-mediated murder as well. You advocate the same crime you seek to punish.
To survive these events, I make it a point to not watch or listen to the images, I take the collective reaction and rely on that as a way to very the accuracy of the images.

The Dallas killings may have been motivated from the shootings in LA and MN-- but four shooters?
You don’t just round-up four (militarily-trained?) snipers–
on a spur-of-the-moment whim and carry out a calculated plan like is one.
This group was waiting for an opportunity such as this to ambush LEOs.
And took the opportunity.
I’ll agree that the conversation will be different–
but the premeditation of the act should become the most important aspect.
