Dems Announce Two Articles Of Impeachment: Abuse Of Power And Obstruction | Talking Points Memo

Let’s hope they pull a fast one on the rethuglicans and NOT pass them out the Senate until more investigation is done.

Make the rethuglicans sweat

Though I agree, I might quibble with the use of the word “secretariat.” It connotes work, something which this orange excrementalist is incapable of.

When you extort someone they either cave or keep quiet out of fear. They don’t complain about being extorted.

And the right wing defends this as they’re just ignoring an illegitimate process to overturn the election and force a coup.

Nothing is further from the truth, but it’s how they are marketing it. Now, what are the Dems doing to counter that point?

They probably won’t impeach a second time. But they can use such information during the election season. The crazy thing about that is this: can there really be anyone who doesn’t know whether or not he/she will vote for Trump? I can’t wrap my head around the idea that there are 5-10% of voters on the fence, the swing voters, who are undecided. Really? That said, the Democrats have to keep moving forward and fighting hard. Hopefully, they’ll be able to tie Trump around the necks of all Republicans during the election season.

In short, our country is in a really dangerous place right now.

Okay, only 2 articles but that should not stymie the Democrats from repeatedly stating the sound bite: “Russia successfully and militarily attacked this country. “ . Not to mention the attack continues to this day. Why don’t I hear this many times a day from them? Pisses me off to no end!

Hoping for multiple impeachments when it took so much (something so blatant, so in you face like the Ukraine call) to get us here is … let’s say I wouldn’t bet the farm on it. We already have Mueller and Ukraine. That alone is more than “two.” As to the tax stuff, who knows when that will come out, especially if the Supreme Court takes it up. They decide in June. Will there be a trial in September or October as elections go on?

Hey, as a recovering Eeyore, I resemble that remark. Go easy. Some of us experience moments of relapse and we need a tiny amount of support or compassion to get back on the track.

This isn’t smart. There isn’t a single voter who will base his vote on whether the House impeaches on whether there are two or three or four articles of impeachment. Avoiding the issues raised by the Mueller report won’t help any candidate. The impeachment should be based on every act obstructing justice since Trump was inaugurated.

Now, if the House includes the firing of Comey as part of the “abuse of power” charge, I’ll change my mind. It’s an impeachable act and should not be ignored.

We either have a Constitutional republic with laws and institutions of democracy, or we don’t. The contrast between the party that wants to maintain and improve these things and the party that wants to throw it all away is pretty damned clear.

It’s clearly a Freddy Mercury ‘stache. But you have to have the pipes to pull that off.

I would argue optics are actually a big part of why Guiliani is still trolling for propaganda in Ukraine. Their ethos is to never, ever admit wrongdoing or show weakness. When your opponents accuse you of breaking the rules, you claim that there’s nothing wrong with doing the thing and then you conspicuously do the thing even harder.

It quickly boils down to “You want me to stop? Make me.”

As for the tax stuff, I doubt there’s anything criminal there. But I think it will be embarrassing to Trump when it all comes out. It’ll be made clear how much of his fortune has been generated by his ties to Russian oligarchs. It’ll also become clear that he’s not as rich as he claims to be.

“The argument, ‘Why don’t you just wait?’ amounts to this: ‘Why don’t you just let him cheat in one more election? Why not let him cheat just one more time? Why not let him have foreign help just one more time?’” Schiff said."

Yes. Exactly this. Well said, Sir.

Of course, he’s running scared, but that’s only because he knows there’s no one he can specifically rely on.

#DitchMoscowMitch could turn on him at any time (unlikely, but not out of the realm of possible) and Roberts is an unknown quantity (his legacy vs. Opus Dei).

Anything can still happen, and probably will. But yes, he’s running scared.

ETA: he should just release the witnesses he’s barred from testifying and set the story straight, right?
