The problem with bribery as an article of impeachment is that most Americans associate the word with la mordita, the little bite, an actual Benjamin casually slid across the counter to smooth one’s transaction with a corrupt official. They don’t see the way Trump handled the security funding as the same thing. Characterizing extortion as a form of bribery is a too subtle a shading.
Not only is he a cheater at everything, his cheating is more often illegal and criminal in nature. He’s our first Mobbed Up Criminal pResident.
Speaking of which, when does Lavrov arrive for tea and toast? Will tRump allow our media to cover it? Doubtful. Will he be allowed back into the Oval Office to check on his surveillance equipment? (Kidding, not kidding.) I guess we’ve come full circle and Lavrov is finally coming back to collect his chits today. That’s one more concern no one should casually blow off. In fact, the whole thing with him coming today is so surreal.
Maybe he can brag to Lavrov about wanting to get rid of Chris Wray this time, much like he did about getting rid of Comey the first time he met with him.
Big picture: the power of impeachment only applies to Democratic presidents. For reasons best known to themselves, Dems decided not to enforce subpoenas against key White House witnesses (Mulvaney, Pompeo etc), let alone force the President to give testimony in the way that Clinton was forced. Obviously that won’t happen at the Senate trial–because the messaging groundwork has not been laid.
The messaging war has been lost because the overarching narrative and abuse of power–that the GOP, led by a corrupt president–is rigging the 2020 election, was never floated for longer than about a second. Most Americans think the whole thing is about some obscure conversations with obscure Ukrainians and has little bearing on anything except Trump’s corruption/maverickness, all of which are already known. The decision to commit to business as usual on trade agreements also undermines any notion that we are in the middle of a grave constitutional crisis with our democracy at stake.
I hear his skeletons make quite an entertaining parade. That doesn’t rule out his continued success, but the GOP euphemism generator will be smoking hot.
Hostas love the dark side.
One of my favorite bad movies! Gregory Peck as a Nazi. Who can’t love it?
It may not be bad to keep investigating, to let Trump and the Republicans know that they’re still investigating, and to hold the extra goodies they already have in hand, plus what’s yet to come, over their heads going forward. When Trump is inevitably acquitted by the Senate, he’ll overstep again - just as he did the day after Mueller’s testimony (which is the root of these impeachment articles), and the Dems will be compelled to respond yet again to the treasonous nonsense.
Atticus Furher!
Either that or Mueller did not deliver 12 “ironclad” cases of obstruction of justice.
If he had delivered 12 “ironclad” cases, there would be no need for any witnesses to testify. Right?
Really, after watching Turdley last week, I agree, he’s a partisan asshole.
Fuck, Barr is good friends with both Turdley and Mueller. Is it opposites attract or birds of a feather?
Anyone keeping tabs on the state charges for Manafort?
Something tells me Stone, Manafort and Flynn will get pardons before the election, not after. Trump won’t take any chances if he is not sure of winning. If he is sure of winning, he will pardon them after.
I agree but I think the 2020 election could very well be the focus of the Senate trial, since it will BE 2020. I’m hoping. The messaging war is currently lost because the fucking Moron sucks up all the oxygen and until we get a nominee, there is no one the MSM considers as “important.”
The damn terrorist story in Pensacola is gone already. Why isn’t anyone mentioning that he can’t say “terrorist” a la Obama and “Islamic jihad”?
It hasn’t been lost - yet. My concern now is that we find a candidate that we can all support, who can speak bluntly and powerfully about this. It is this lack of a voice at the top right now that makes my stomach flutter.
“He’s the Secretariat of the Republican Dark side. They don’t have another.”
Lynne Ann Cheney?
Barr still has too much of the Mueller Report under wraps.
Yes, but I would like to see the redacted portion of the MR. And maybe we’ll get to see it as Trump continues to self-impeach, but I could never see Opus Dei Barr giving it up if it became an article for impeachment without forcing a SC food fight.
And also, thank you Christopher Ray. I thought he was just in it for the money, being a partner in the NJ law firm that ran up the bill (a million +) on NJ taxpayers over lardass Christie’s childish retribution in the Bridgegate(?) fiasco.
Gaetz is a pig, but I think that photo shows sleep-deprivation because the shooting at Pensacola naval station is putting more demands on him than he can handle.
I remember when the Fort Hood shooting happened, The GOP faithful I knew were outraged at PBO’s response. Livid. Seems lacking this time.
Will Trump eat the notes?
They’re doing fine. With Trump’s continued help and Democrat’s resolve, we may get to the Promised Land.
What may stop him from doing it again is the fact that he’s he’s a cowardly small child at the core. He constantly tests his limits, pushes as far as he can, then backs away when he gets his wrist slapped. Notice that we haven’t had another shutdown threat? That’s a prime example. Also, he knows he’s going to get help from Russian election interference anyway, without asking.
There has to be a concerted, as in a concert given by a choir, message that Trump and the GOP were caught redhanded trying to steal the 2020 election and that we are in a historic constitutional crisis that precludes any further cooperation with the GOP, legislatively, because we have a gangster administration. [emphasis to highlight key phrases]
That would put the matter very clearly and make day-to-day distractions very hard.
Do we get to wipe out the Repub…I mean the Amalekites?
