I totally disagree and I think you’ve got an invalid premise going on there. You might as well refuse an antibiotic you need to live because you’re concerned about antibiotics being overprescribed. You can think about the general and the particular differently. That punk is a white-power-motivated murdering vigilante. It doesn’t get much worse. What would you suggest?

I’d go with the European model, where “life” sentences are generally 15 years. Extensions are possible under certain circumstances, so the worst terrorists do actual face life behind bars, but in general, the focus is on reform of the individual.
When you throw a life sentence at someone, there’s no hope for them for reforming and ever being a productive member of society.
Prisons are a reflection of the society they exist in. American punishments and the lengths of them make it more humane to just shoot them than let them languish for decades behind bars with no hope of ever getting out.

10-18 years in jail. What Sweden uses unless you are a mass murderer or serial killer or cop killer. And where anyone under 18 can’t be sentenced to life.
