Coalition Of Blue States And Cities Seek To Intervene In Alabama Census Case | Talking Points Memo

The 3/5th rule was a compromise for allocating political power. That is by counting slaves who had no rights let alone the franchise, power was given to slave states over free states that had no slaves. It is why so many early presidents were from Virginia. Counting slaves in 1790 as 3/5 moved Virginia from the third most populous states to the most populous state thereby giving it power in spite of the fact that a substantial portion of its population could not vote.

That said, you are kidding yourself that when the issue is about power, especially political power, that the 5 Republicans on the Supreme Court will care about the constitution, legal precedent or their oaths of office. Unless their is another uproar that would threaten the legitimacy of ā€œthe Roberts Courtā€, we all should expect that regardless of the facts, the constitution, past precedent or any moral or legal factors the current Supreme Court will give whatever ruling will help the Republican Party.

OK. If we’re going to include the unborn, should we also include the undead?

OT again, but here’s more of it…Trump is ā€œleading the dialogue on gun safety and white supremacyā€ā€¦ā€œhe was handed a broken economy that he fixed and just like that he’s been handed broken gun policy that he’s going to fixā€ā€¦

LIES LIES LIES and all designed to take the credit away from Dems and undermine the argument for 2020. Also, apparently, being the POTUS who finally breaks the logjam on gun control guarantees reelection and a place next to Lincoln and Washington in the discussion of historic POTUSes…

This blatantly false narrative needs to be combated by the MSM but won’t be. Enjoy.

The Democrats should introduce a bill that sets a new formula for addressing that idiotic 435 limit for Congressional representation.

Adults shouldn’t be ordering beverages that you would drink with a straw

A friggin’ frappuccino does not go well with a fucking sippy-cup lid.

Those that didn’t turn away in disgust while he was still a candidate look even worse for focusing on ā€œirreverent languageā€ after all of Trump’s actions since the election.

I’ll happily encourage anyone turning against Trumpp for any ridiculous reason, but they get no personal credit for taking a stand against ā€œirreverent language.ā€

Has Brooks wondered just what percentage of undocumented immigrants are found in the Red States and what portion are found in the Blue States. My bet is the Red States like Alabama risk losing representation if they stop counting illegals.

Seriously in many parts of rural America illegals working in chicken factories outnumber legals.

Remember, Hillary only won Minnesota by 1.5% of the vote in 2016.

State-wide office races have favored Democrats much more strongly (thank Dog) but there is a substantial Evangelical Vote and a substantial Out-State Vote to counter the Democratic strongholds of The Twin Cites and Rochester. That is why Republicans currently control the State Senate in Minnesota.

These forces will be marshaled by AM Hate Radio, unfettered Evangelical Preaching from the Pulpit (now allowed due to a Trump Executive Order) and Conservative slant in the major news organizations in the state (looking at YOU KARE 11.)

It will be a dog-fight in Minnesota in 2020, no doubt about it, so we have to work twice as hard as we did in 2018 when we did very well in the Senate and Congressional races.

What happens in Minnesota affects the states around us strongly too, especially in Western Wisconsin, a state we cannot afford to lose again in 2020, and in Iowa, a long-shot for any Democratic Presidential candidate to win.

Yes, but watching some hipster douche flip his waxed handlebar mustache over how it ruins his half-caff soy latte before he storms out with his typewriter would make it all worthwhile.

Well, as long as you realize that his droll self-satisfied attempts at irony trump your desire for a quiet cup of morning coffee or hearing the person you’re trying to have a conversation with, especially because thick rimmed glasses are cruise control for looking smart. Besides, he’s no doubt coming up with the best Bernie bumper sticker ever.

Probably not. Remember, Alabama is the state that decided it would rather let its crops rot in the fields than risk having undocumented immigrants pick them. After the passage of HB-56 in 2011, immigrant agricultural workers (both documented and undocumented) just disappeared from Alabama.
