Biden Smacks Down Deficit Scolds | Talking Points Memo

I have my differences with him but … what makes you say that?

I expect, after the passage of COVID relief via reconciliation by the Dems and the signing into law by Biden, a shitload of concern from Sistah Suzie and Tweeted Bible quotes from Widdle Marco.

I’m not convinced. What if he had ended up working in particle physics and accidentally created a black hole when using a particle collider?

There is that, I guess.

I think you would have done well with clutching pearls stringers and smelling salt bottlers.
I get the impression that both are gonna be in demand over the next four years.

Campaigns are poetry.
Governing is prose.

Given the competency of his work in economics, I have serious doubts Larry was going far in a world where the results of experiments matter.

I know basically next to nothing about the science of economics, which means, of course, that I should have an article about me printed in Politico by Tuesday!

Yeah, yeah, this is great, and all, but is Hunter Biden going to negotiate a peace deal between Switzerland and Portugal? Is Biden running a Country Club that I can join?

I do love the misspelling that leads to “pump the breaks.” Poetry with politics is the best.

It was fun last year when physicists and economists figured they knew more about pandemics than epidemiologists. Lotta good work there.

Best. Campaign slogan. EVER.

The Republicans created huge deficits with their tax cut for the extremely rich and corporate overlords but increasing deficits to actually help the vast majority of Americans is just a bridge too far for these folks. Joe’s response is perfect and calls them out on their hypocrisy.

“All of the sudden, many of them have rediscovered fiscal restraint and the concern for the deficits,” Biden said.

“clutching pearls stringers and smelling salt bottlers”

Funny, that’s also Lindsey Graham’s screen name on Grindr.

Comes across as sloppy, not charming. Erodes at credibility, which is not what I want to see here. TPM, please take a moment to let your copy cool for a hot minute.

In his remarks two hours ago, President Biden said the figure $300,000/year. He said they don’t need the money compared to 2-wage earners together making around $70,000/year do need the direct payments. $300,000 isn’t written in stone, but that’s the figure he just used in his example on live tv.

He also explicitly said the amount will be $1400 as promised.

Yes. Watching him stand up to LEAD, and use his vast experience to do so makes me so proud. He has really turned out to be the right person for the job right now.

I was a Kamala fan, but must admit that @pluckyinky was right all along!

One wonders if The Party Formerly Known as Republican is hoping a return to “tax and spend Dems!” means that everything is back to normal and we can forget about that other stuff.

“All of the sudden, many of them have rediscovered fiscal restraint and the concern for the deficits,” Biden said.

I believe that is referred to in scientific terms as a FUCKING BURN!

Science? The best analogy I’ve heard is that economics is astrology for dudes.

(Good thing my daughter, who just got accepted into an Econ master’s program, doesn’t read what I post here. But she’s one of the good ones, I’m sure.)
