Biden Smacks Down Deficit Scolds | Talking Points Memo

President Biden on Friday showed no inclination towards pumping the breaks on pushing his COVID-19 relief through Congress so that he could continue negotiations with the GOP lawmakers who are advocating for a much smaller package.

Pump the breaks, and everything falls to pieces.

A much more polished way of saying, fuck-you, Republicans, which is what I would have said, but I will certainly allow it. Have I said I love this guy and that’s he’s already far exceeded my expectations?

Lotta typos in that article.

If the brakes break, things end up broke.

English spelling aside, Yeah Joe!

ETA: Also, rejoice! TPM is covering Biden!

More, please.

Call it for what it is, while running it over, on our way to doing whats right and necessary.

Now if only Patty Murray would take over as Majority Leader.

Nice try, but that trick won’t work anymore. Nobody believes that Republicans really care about deficits now so… next question?

Brian Schatz (D-HI) has this exactly right:

I only hope it becomes a hallmark of the Biden administration to refuse to listen to people like Larry Summers.

“He argued that by not spending enough, the Obama administration’s 2009 response package to the economic crisis prolonged the recovery.”

…and it was Republicans who bipartisaned it down to a smaller package then all voted against it. F**k them!

His comments included some sharp words for the Republicans criticizing the cost of his proposals after going along with the deficit spending that happened under the Trump administration, including with GOP tax cuts that will cost the government trillions of dollars.

Darn! I should have invested in fainting couches, instead of popcorn futures like I did. Oh, well. Probably both investments will do well over the next four years.

“Biden was forceful in saying he won’t get bogged down in a months-long negotiation or compromise with a bill that’s insufficient to meet the current crisis. “I am going to help the American people who are hurting now,” he said.”

"It’s not true that nice guys finish last. Nice guys are winners before the game even starts.

Biden must had some interesting conversations with Obama of this same exact thing.

Should have been $2000 … per month, $23 minimum wage, $800 unemployment…

By the way, Saving lives is a bipartisan goal. Preventing mass evictions, getting people vaccinated, stopping the worst aspects of covid-19, raising the standard of living for the lowest paid workers and thereby raising EVERYONE’s standard of living are all bi-partisan goals!

It’s always the Republicans who refuse to do the best for their own voters. But for them to say that hurting all Americans because they gave away trillions to 1% the is “bipartisan”??? It hurts that so many talking heads refuse to point this out to them when they whine.
