That is just 4 more days. It means that payment cycle 1 Social Security payments get made.

This is just going to embolden these idiots, isn’t it?

These idiots are emboldened just by breathing. It is just 4 more days. If there is a deal in the works, it presumably allows that to happen, assuming that it can really happen.

Reposting here with a note that it is framed as R’s struggling and some are perhaps in panic mode.

Treasury’s new warning: June 5th is the X date. This will give Congress more breathing room as Rs struggle to get a deal with the WH on debt limit pic.twitter.com/z8KiroovOe

Yellen does not state that there will be a debt default. Debt service is only 12% of federal spending, and that spending can be prioritized even if we hit the debt limit. What she more correctly states is that there will be inadequate money to fully fund government operations starting June 5.

As we’ve already started to hear, to the Freedum Kaukus, this is clearly a sign of yet another Biden administration scandal to investigate and, if possible, Benghazi!

Too bad that members of Congress aren’t under the threat of not getting paid.

Good catch! And that Treasury will need to rob/ borrow from Peter to pay Paul so-to-speak.

Some good news.

The Texas House plans to vote on the impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton at 1 p.m. on Saturday, according to a memo released Friday by House Speaker Dade Phelan’s office.

There is no cannibalism in the British navy, absolutely none, and when I say none, I mean there is a certain amount.

Hakeem is talking to McCarthy, Schumer, and the WH.

Hakeem Jeffries won’t say on CNN if House Dems can deliver the votes to offset GOP defections on any debt limit deal cut by Biden and McCarthy. Says part of the challenge is that it’s “unclear how many votes House Republicans can produce.”

Since they’re mostly in “circular firing squad” formation, that may not be such a bad thing.

You’d prefer that Congress self-selects for the independently wealthy?

(ETA: Even more than it already does, that is. Greg Gianforte (R-MT, net worth around $200M) can probably miss a paycheck or two with a lot less personal worry than, say, AOC.)

Shall we bet on whether the Freedom Fascists will agree to any deal when push comes to shove? I’m going with nyet. Then again, they might - at the expense of Kev’s job. Sad.

Just remember this Garret Graves … Rep. From Lousiana is willing to fuck up the world economy over “work requirements” for things like SNAP, medicaid and any other government assistance to people who have nothing. They may be ill or elderly. This heartless fuck still wants them to work somehow for businesses thst would not hire them anyway. For this he would sink the world economy.
Remember the name
Garret Graves.
