Oh, I wouldn’t say they don’t like us. They do. But it’s like one of your good friends; god you love the guy; but he loves a good time and feels invincible as he rides the ski-doo or power boat drunk and engages in other high risk behaviors. And you think boy, I’m not gonna do that, I want to have kids someday. I knew two such people. They both died violently and before their time.

The media has been so focused on Europe to the great detriment of Canada, which has had an overall competent response and are, surprise, actually located in the same hemisphere as the US.

I’m going to be honest here. While removing Trump is essential and will certainly help, there are many deep-rooted problems in US society that pre-dated him and weren’t solved under either party. I won’t bore everyone with the list, since we all know them…But one thing for sure, even had Hillary won and modeled excellent behavior, some Americans would be acting badly. Many of the cases we are seeing now come from “partying” in one variety or another and it isn’t only Republicans doing it, sad to say…

I’m thinking, that, If Trump were a smart authoritarian we wouldn’t be in this mess. I mean, assuming you accept the Chinese Covid-19 statistics, and well-earned skepticism aside, there’s no reason to reject them out of hand, Xi has done a better job of managing the crisis. So, if we must have a dictator, let’s at least have a smart one. As it is, we have all the disadvantages of an authoritarian leader and none of the advantages.

First we need a national lock down for 6 weeks. Then a decade to recover economically from that very essential crushing of that fucking virus.
