The complete and total abdication of oversight and effort by the President, his administration, and the Republican Party (who had the ability and authority to alter the President’s path) have led to 161,000 covid-19 deaths in the US with 96,400 of them estimated to be the result of the President’s and the Republican Party’s policies.
Both of these numbers are astounding. To put it in perspective, it’s as if we completely eliminated the entire populations of many cities, such as:
Port St. Lucie FL
Tempe AZ
Sioux Falls SD
Chattanooga TN
Fort Lauderdale FL
Midland TX
Santa Rosa CA
Eugene OR
Alexandra VA
Springfield MA
Jackson MI
Bloomington IL
Think about that. And the numbers are still rising, despite the efforts to suppress and hide the real numbers by miscounting and mislabeling/mis-assigning deaths.We still do not have the appropriate PPE necessary for health care providers and the population to remain safe, we still cannot perform the necessary level and frequency of testing, we do not have the established infrastructure for contact tracing on a national level, and the list goes.
Meanwhile, the President wants his face on Mt. Rushmore? How about another part of his anatomy instead? It would be more appropriate.
None of this should be occurring. The Republicans are following a scorched earth policy, the most recent example being to circumvent the US Constitution by using executive orders for political reasons to poison the well for future presidents and congress. We have the technology, we have the experience, we have the leadership capability, but the President, Vice President and most importantly Senate Majority Leader McConnell have decided to play politics and kill people, damage the economy, as well as our standing in the world to preserve conservative wealthy white male rule.
Enough. We will overcome these problems but at a real cost. Stay safe, push back against all efforts by the President and his administration to make reduce our ability to hold free elections, listen to best practice by the medical professionals (I’m sorry to say no longer the CDC) and vote in November.

That’s a completely wrong framework. Of course no one in America wants to die from a novel virus. The thing is that one politcal party and its base no longer lives in reality, and hasn’t for a long time, though of course it’s continually getting worse on that front.
And while that party still controls significant power, it’s not goings to to change. And we need to be vigilant after Trump is gone about letting that party off the hook.
The Lincoln Project is one example. Republicans that don’t like Trump. Well, how do they feel about W and Dick Cheney?

Just wait. The post-election crisis we’re likely heading for will be so much more alarming; COVID-19 raging while Trump and the GOP contest the results state by state, running out the clock on the EC. I think turnout will be massive. In any other year the reThugs would be done but this isn’t a normal year. That and the fact that the GOP and Trump’s base will never see Democratic success as legitimate.

If Trump loses the EC by a lot and starts contesting the results, I sorta think no one will pay attention to him. It’s our best hope. Then again, there’s Florida.
