Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Friday for the first time directly addressed allegations that she had an improper relationship with a top prosecutor in her RICO case against Trump and more than a dozen other defendants. In a Friday court filing, she confirmed that she began a “personal relationship” with prosecutor Nathan Wade beginning in 2022, but denied that that relationship tainted her case.
Prediction: Trumpistas will try to make something of this (probably with shrieking racist undertones), and in the end it will not save Donnie’s fat orange ass.
Let us hope that this does not interfere with the timely and successful prosecution of the Orange Jesus and the rest of his gang.
But I fear that the Georgia Republican authorities and the Supremos will find some dark and devious way to derail an otherwise winnable case to put the Orange Jesus and his accomplices into some suitable backwoods Georgia prison.
Very disappointed in Willis. I would have thought she had better judgement to keep her personal life clean and without speculative fodder that the Trump team will undoubtedly capitalize on.
Although I am extremely upset at Willis for putting such an important case at risk, I don’t see what it has to do with the legal case of Trump trying to steal an election; just like Trump being declared a rapist in NY doesn’t mean he is guilty in the Georgia case.
I think a new law of the universe has made itself known in recent years: everything interferes with the timely and successful prosecution of TFG.
It’s absolutely maddening. I think it’s highly likely he’ll live to 140, kept alive by spite and ketchup. And the prosecutions will be mired down in some motion or other still being delayed by the withered husks of the GOP Supreme Court.
1 / Being horny and lonely are OK.
2 / Being an arrogant prosecutor is OK.
3 / It is super dumb to be both (1) and (2) such that it in any way negatively affects the biggest case of your lifetime. Really dumb. Staggeringly so. (Please note that she kept it a secret for all of the obvious reasons.)
I don’t see what the issue is here. There seems to be a lot of smoke, but I don’t see any fire. My understanding is that personnel in courtrooms have relationships ALL THE TIME. How does Willis’ relationship with Wade affect whether the defendants are guilty or not? I just don’t see it. The media loves the spectacle of a scandal, and they will milk this for all the clicks and baits it can generate, but I’m not going to play along. And maybe a corrupt republicon judge will use it as an excuse to delay or derail the case against Trump and the other defendants, but I just don’t see how their relationship has any real substantive bearing on whether Trump et al are guilty or not.
Sigh. Surprise. The prosecution of a dirty crook turned into a muddy mud fight. Trump isn’t going to get away with his criminal crap no matter who is sleeping with whom. But it certainly sells a lot of newspapers and click-bait headlines while Trump remains at large.
It may be bad optics, and such a relationship might have ethical issues (don’t have sexy-time with people who work for you). But I don’t see how it would adversely affect the RICO case.
Now, if she was having secret quality time with an attorney on the opposite team, I can see how that could create a conflict of interest. Maybe some of you actual lawyers out there can speak to this.
