WI GOPers Sue State’s Health Officials For Stay-At-Home Order

Vos in particular was a loud voice in the fight over whether or not to move the state’s April 7 election, becoming something of a symbol when he gave a televised interview telling Wisconsinites that it was safe to vote in-person, while clad head-to-toe in protective equipment.

Oh, that jack-off. Of course.

Hmmm… Serious protester, or a sly troll slipping in, staying anonymous with a mask…

I mean, that looks like something that @castor_troy would do…

I watched a nurse on All In with Chris Hayes last night say that “people are calling us heroes, but we feel more like martyrs”, and for some reason, that was the particular moment I decided to let it all hit me. The last time I cried like that was when my brother died. The oppositional politics of Trump and the GOP have finally reached their logical endpoint, where they are literally willing to sacrifice people’s lives to maintain their power and service their version of the economy. When you blow away all of the smoking bullshit, they are simply murdering people by proxy and I have never felt more anger. It’s no longer ideology, or incompetence, or stupidity - it is calculated evil.

But the Court is apolitical, issuing decisions based on a strict interpretation of the law as written, without concern for ideology or personal bias. That’s why cases with long term Constitutional effects are never decided on 5-4 party line votes in the US Supreme Court.

Of course, you realize that their answer would be that DT’s XO’s improve the economy and extend liberty. For all the real 'muricans, that is.

As they contemplate what they could possibly run on in November, if not “Teh Best Economy EVAR!!”, the sense of panic must be profound.

Do you think it’s possible that’s so shocking it can’t be serious? You surprise me. I did notice the mask but a certain percentage of these knuckleheads do have them. They support the right to die like an ignoramus in principle, it seems, but more as an individual choice than as an individual choice they actually want to make themselves.

To no one’s surprise, the decision will be 5-2 in favor of the Republican Legislature, which will then decide to OPEN WISCONSIN FOR BUSINESS in the hopes that they can then use COVID-19 to kill off LARGE numbers of African-Americans in Milwaukee and the surrounding cities/townships to SUPPRESS THE VOTE in November by the sheer terror of dying of COVID-19 if you try to vote. The Republican Legislature will of course KEEP ALMOST ALL POLLING PLACES in and around Milwaukee and surrounding areas CLOSED for Health and Safety Reason…and somehow make it illegal for those counties to use Vote by Mail.

It is not only cynical, it is downright Machiavellian in it’s ruthlessness and sociopathy.

I think that it’s just so over-the-top that it could well be… The “tell” is that it doesn’t have any misspelled words…

Slightly OT: Trump is such a monumental fuck up that it can be difficult to keep on point how damaging he is when discussing this with MAGAts and uninformed people who don’t really engage in politics. Kevin Drum had a post last night that I think distills Trump’s past, current and future failings on COVID-19 really succinctly (except the middle part) and I wanted to share because half of it is even in bullet points:

Let’s review our president’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • He has no plan for mass testing.
  • He has already let everyone know he’s unenthusiastic about masks.
  • He wants to “liberate” states from stay-at-home orders.
  • He wants to open up non-essential businesses as soon as possible.
  • He appears to have no particular opinion about social distancing, school closings, or large gatherings.

In other words, he literally has no concrete response to the pandemic at all, aside from closing our borders and passing along damaging fictions about vaccines and folk remedies. Meanwhile, his own director of the CDC—no liberal shill by any stretch—is warning that the second wave of COVID-19 later in the year is likely to be worse than the one we’re going through right now:

Asked about protests against stay-at-home orders and calls on states to be “liberated” from restrictions, Redfield said: “It’s not helpful.” The president himself has tweeted encouragements of such protests, urging followers to “LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” and “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!”

Forewarned is forearmed, they say. We have the next six months to build more ICU capacity; stockpile masks and protective gear for doctors and nurses; increase our testing capacity by at least 10x; and prepare a huge PR campaign based on what we learn from the first wave of COVID-19.

Is there any sign that Trump is interested in any of this? Not that I’ve seen.

GOPers have to do what they have to do. Let this be a lesson to us all…when Republicans plead principles and fundamental rights, it’s time to check your pockets and where the nearest exit door is. These people have none of the former and couldn’t care less about the latter…unless and only if it’s to their advantage.

Related: Hannity, he’s bad for ya!

“Greater exposure to Hannity relative to Tucker Carlson Tonight increased the number of total cases and deaths in the initial stages of the coronavirus pandemic,” the authors conclude. “Our findings indicate that provision of misinformation in the early stages of a pandemic can have important consequences for health outcomes.”

The methodology appears to be quite rigorous and the authors appear to have done a good job accounting for confounding factors. This is serious and not some whimsical study.

Why should they give a shit? Not one of them is up for election until 2023, and they’re guaranteed at least a 4-3 majority until 2027.

ETA: Whoops, I screwed up the math. They could lose their current 4-3 majority in the 2023 election. The 2025 election could swing it back the other way.

The TV advertisements with the assembly speaker in his protective gear saying it is all safe, having made everyone stand in line to vote, just write themselves.

The republicans have a really bad case of FOX poisoning, they seem to think that what is on FOX is real, not some ginned up propaganda TV to try to sell shitty pillows and catheters to old uneducated white people.

This is going to end well;

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he has ordered the Navy to “shoot down and destroy” any Iranian gunboats that harass U.S. ships, a directive that comes a week after the Navy reported a group of Iranian boats made “dangerous and harassing approaches” to American vessels in the Persian Gulf.

Sacrifice the Weak -how many of these whack jobs support assisted suicide laws or are advocates of death with dignity. This is such a contradiction. Terri Schiavo comes to mind.

Given that 59% of Republicans believe that higher education has a negative impact on society, this should surprise no one.

The ignorance is way past appalling.
