Of all the conservative-firebrands-turned-TV-lawyers the Trump administration could have tapped to join its impeachment defense, former South Carolina congressman Trey Gowdy makes the least sense.
" Why It Makes No Sense For Gowdy To Join Trump’s Impeachment Defense Team"
I will never understand headlines like this. Let me help you out a bit: Gowdy is a party-before-country Republican. He will sell his soul and sell out his country for the glory and majesty of his beloved party.
There is no logic, no thought process, no reason - just blindly pushing Republican.
You can come up with 1,000 reasons that this doesn’t make sense - but all your quotes above are from the days of President Obama - a Democrat. Trump is a Republican, and Gowdy will abandon EVERY quote you state above.
He’s being brought in because he has expert knowledge in the House’s procedures and investigation processes and they intend to attack the impeachment process as illegitimate from the ground up, starting with the lack of full House vote. One of their only hopes here is to force a situation in which GOP representatives get to engage in a full-bore withchunt of the Biden-Ukraine conspiracy idiocy…likely spearheaded by Nunes, Jordan, Meadows and Gaetz…which regularly “leaks” falsehoods and carefully cherry-picked factoids in order to “convict” Biden and make it seem like Trump’s “swamp draining corruption hunt” was justified all along. They’ve decided that the way to get there is to force a full House vote on impeachment, which they think will require the House to give GOPers the power to issue subpeonas and call witnesses.
Probably nobody wants to work for Trump, and Gowdy has bills to pay, and he already missed on “Dancing With the Stars”. Fox News has no shortage of trumpturds to repeat the WH talking points on TV and consequently, doesn’t pay them much .
Gowdy is just another of the republicans greatest hits. Even though he ultimately got nowhere.
A return to the glory days of the Hilary hearings. The older they get the better it was.
My hopes/intuition is that Gowdy comes across as the most rational when trying to make deals on either Trump investigation documents or overall removal/resignation of Trump. GOP fear is that if the top domino (Trump) is flipped, then others, such as VP, Sec of State…etc. will be toppled as well. Cut off the head of the hydra and move on.
So why did he take up a gig that will put him front-and-center in one of the most partisan Beltway battles imaginable?
Well…go find out what he’s been doing since he left the House, It’s the one thing this article does not mention. Did he get a good gig? Is he working? Does he like his new gig? Perhaps he thinks he can regurgitate himself in time for a run against Lindsey.
