Yep, judges do in camera review of disputed materials all the time. I don’t think even Barr will be so desperate as to try to mandamus that review.

If DOJ refuses to turn over the report, and doesn’t appeal, could someone at DOJ be her in contempt? In a case like this, who would it be?

It’s generally ill-advised, but there are times when you need to take a bullet for your client. It’s telling that Judge Walton is going after Barr himself, not the line attorneys who have to push Barr’s position. It shows he knows who the real bad actor is.

Yes it is and I would really love it if our side wouldn’t join in.
There are lots of good reasons to complain about our press but it is not fake news (except for Breitbart and Fox and other ratwing conspiracy mongers.) Some is better and some is worse but it’s still our free press and we need it. That’s why he attacks it constantly.

In my observation, it wasn’t really until GWB that they really started to overtly politicize the district court bench. That’s not to say that earlier Republican presidents didn’t appoint some really bad trial court judges, but they named plenty of good ones too.
