Then there is category 1b. Wives of Supreme Court Justices. Lookin’ at you, Ginni.
So, the most likely leaker would be a courageous clerk. Bless them whoever they are.
If a physical copy was leaked they won’t find who did it. Politico isn’t going to out their source and the leaker won’t out himself/herself.
“Wait 'til Ginni sees this,” said Clarence as he stood at the copy machine.
Courageous or incredibly stupid? If a clerk ever did such a thing their career would be over. I’m going with Ginni, she has the patent on stupid.
My money’s on Ginni. No liberal would leak to Politico–they’d go to the NYT or Wash Post. Clarence was in the hospital during the time after the decision was made. She could have gotten ahold of a copy–going onto his computer and printed it out maybe?

I have enormous respect for Mr. Kovensky and…
I believe that focusing on the leak, rather than what it leaked, plays into the GOP narrative.
What utterly eclipses the “leak” red-herring is that 50 years of Roe precedent is about to be undone, the incalculable death and suffering it heralds, the freedom and self-determination it claws back from half of all Americans, and that 70% of pro-choice voters are being elbowed aside by a 20% minority of theocrats.
This parlor game is of little use to millions of terrified women facing crisis pregnancies, and time between now and November is short.
Please TPM, don’t focus on (relative) non-stories that, however unintentionally, give aid and comfort to religious-based, anti-democratic Minority Rule.
And again, there was nothing illegal here, right?
… wondering how it worked.
I’d like the suspense and the suspicion to stop overriding the real story, which is the content. I honestly no longer care how this happened. I really don’t. It simply doesn’t matter, in the long range of things being important.
Focus on the content and make them regret ever bringing it up. That’s where the focus should be.
How come I can only Like/Heart this once?
I get your overarching point but I don’t think web pages or the time and attention we have to devote to topics of interest are zero-sum things. Of course the substance is more important, but I can think of two or three reasons this is not only of interest but matters to the whole picture. What were the leaker’s (or leakers’) motivations? There are wildly diverging potential reasons for having done this. At any rate, it’s less important, but keenly interesting and IMHO not at all trivial.
If Jimmy the Greek was still alive, he would be placing bets on Mrs. Thomas.
Most are conservative and the liberals are too smart, plus they know to keep their heads down. My money is on Ginni, Martha Mitchell she ain’t.
What did Mark Twain say…?
If you eliminate all possibilities, the one left, however unlikely…
You know ; - )
Occam’s Razor says it was a conservative. In the absence of countervailing evidence that should be the underlying assumption of all discussions; e.g.,
`I clerked at the Supreme Court. Last night, I assumed a liberal clerk leaked the draft opinion overturning Roe. Now I think MUCH more likely it was leaked by a conservative fanatically committed to every word of Alito’s monstrous opinion.

The draft itself is an abomination but, considering who drafted it, no surprise.
Just look around D.C.
If a liberal leaked it - Justice, clerk, aide - who’s been laying low?
If a conservative - who’s had a shit-eating grin on their face for several days?
Monsters are real.
And they’re all human.
