White Officer Faces Backlash For Incendiary Comments

A white police officer in Tulsa, Oklahoma is facing backlash for incendiary comments he made during a podcast on Monday when he suggested that police officers should shoot black Americans more often.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1313804

And people wonder why there are calls for defunding and disbanding the police.

It sure looks to me like we ought to fire them all and start over everywhere with an entirely different philosophy for hiring and training.

“Yates went on to argue that “if a certain group” commits more violent crimes, causing law enforcement officers to come into “more contact” with them, then the number of shootings is “going to be higher.””

A bad check is a violent crime? failing to use turn signal? selling a loose cigarette?.. etc etc etc.

We’re firing policemen and holding them accountable for their crimes at least 24% less than we probably ought to be.

The comment was made by someone to the effect of “good thing blacks are only looking for equality, not revenge”.

Guess these idiot white cops are trying to provoke the latter.

" Drawing from the ancient wisdom of Sun Tzu’s Art of War, Yates gives targeted and specific advice on how to combat the enemies of law enforcement in a format and style that has never been achieved before. Topics that must be met with courage and explained include training, community policing, race relations, policy, the delusion of demographic parity, social justice “warriors”, and how to deal with politics within the profession. "

If someone says would you like to come on my podcast and comment of BLM, protests, the treatment of minorities in the nation, etc, maybe decline the offer. Unless you’re getting handsomely paid for your 2 cents why run the risk of putting your foot in your mouth?

“The article states that ‘TPD Maj. Travis Yates also suggested that, according to his interpretation of crime data, police should actually be shooting black Americans more frequently,'” Yates said in a statement. “I never said ‘actually.’ This is plainly false and factually inaccurate.

The funny thing about radio people (Public Radio Tulsa) is that they have these things called recordings which help to nail down exactly what was said to them.

In other news: Yates doesn’t understand all the kerfuffle about that dust up in Tulsa in 1921.

Saying stuff like this is how he makes money.

Amazing how easy it is to forget that the people police come into contact with are suspects, not convicts. Perhaps he should be celebrating that POC are 24% more compliant and therefore get shot less often? Maybe the problem is White people forcing the police to shoot them more often?

Instead of being “under fire” and “facing a backlash,” for his overtly racist remarks, this sorry excuse should be summarily fired and facing unemployment.

One word: Tulsa.

Not even close. At very least 95% of the time cops get away with manslaughter, 99…9% of the time they get away with abuse that doesn’t result in death. That is why they believe assulting and killing is part of their fringe benefits.

The snake argues that the mice are crooked and defiant, thus greatly increasing their chances of being eaten. “If they were more compliant, surely we would not eat as many of them as we do.”

The problem is the term “Defund the Police.” It doesn’t convey the true intent of the policy and it sets up opponents to proclaim that protestors want to do away with police forces entirely and install anarchy. I prefer Kevin Drum’s suggestion of “Rebuild the Police.”

I’m totally okay with defunding Tulsa Police Major Travis Yates’ position. Clearly there’s no need for that.

That officer should BE fired, not under fire.

I don’t fucking care about that because opponents obviously will find things to say about all of this - that’s what this story is about.

Our local news explained it last night. And it was explained in the paper, too.

Hell, if the Left came out with “Double Police Funding”, the Right would smash them as tax-crazy people who want to rob the middle class of their hard-earned money.
