It’s the worst reason not to say something I can think of.
Especially when something like 74% of Americans agree we need serious systemic change - not incrementalism which has gotten people very little so far in regards to equality and justice.
I’ve never, to the best I can remember, bashed a whole state, or thought all the people living in some large area were bad. But there’s no doubt bad behavior is more tolerated in some places, the same way bad restaurants are, and they’re usually the same places. This guy has probably said this to nodding approval five dozen times in a small knot of people at a Chamber of Commerce meeting or down at the filling station or wherever. He’s forgotten that talking about how often you ought to be shooting people from a particular race makes eyebrows go up outside his little milieu.
This is a “Bell Curve” type argument that has some simplistic appeal to some on the right but is the apotheosis of the old saying that "there are Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics
These types of statements are coming out as a result of the Floyd atrocity. You would think that the Right would wish to tamp this down and try to muff it…especially since these protests have them on their back foot.
So what do they do?
They do a double-down and pour forth legions of other fascists just overjoyed to try to out-do the folks in Minneapolis…
Thus ensuring the protesters in no uncertain terms that they–and we–are on the Right Track.
It certainly restored my faith in Americans and in humanity in general that the outrage is so general and that so many people got enlightened or are trying at least.
Aaaand pivoting to a new adventure in race relations, Trump has just refused via Twitter to “even consider” renaming military bases named for Confederate generals etc. And it’s particularly cringey, since he called the bases Legendary, Monumental, very Powerful, Hallowed Grounds, Magnificent, and Fabled. Telling you, the boy ain’t right.
TPD Maj. Travis Yates also suggested that, according to his interpretation of crime data, police should actually be shooting black Americans more frequently,
in a side note TPD Major Travis Yates added that he is reviewing other career paths.
I saw some charts the other day that show Tulsa as one of those cities that has higher than normal numbers of police killings.
Furthermore, following his own logic, if black people are more likely to be committing crimes, then it could also be that a lifetime of systemic racism leaves them poor and without any means to advance, so crime becomes a viable outlet for both anger and monetary gain.
