Even in the deep and murky annals of congressional corruption, there’s no one quite like Rep. George Santos (R-NY). Who else, after all, could hope to match the sheer mendacity or the brazenness of his alleged scams?
Santos’ story isn’t over yet. As the drama continues to unfold, TPM will stay ahead of the curve on Santos and the broader world of MAGA malfeasance that made his rise possible.
And with any luck, the msm will follow your lead. Here’s hoping.
To all appearances, George Santos is also a smurf.
And, in all likelihood, the first of his kind to stand for, and plausibly sweep, the Golden Dukes.

I am reminded of “Catch Me If You Can”, but instead of the shyster being on the lam, he sits in the House of Representatives thumbing his nose at the FBI.
No, that’s granting Santos too much respect. Sure, he was (is) brazen, but he’s a lightweight. If he weren’t part of a hairsbreadth majority, they probably would have cut him loose. He holds no sway over the Party and doesn’t have any responsibilities within the Party.
I don’t know a lot of the details of Rep. “Duke” Cunningham, but he was a power broker in the Party. He was positioned to make or break fellow members’ careers and lobbyists flocked to him for favors. Santos is like a “Randy Cunningham in 30 seconds” improv routine. He’s a spectacle in the moment, but he doesn’t have staying power like the “Duke” did.
The House republican majority is clearly more important than speaking truth or being honest that is why the goobers feel it so very important to keep Santos/Devolder around. He could get after a young boy over one of the desks on the House floor and the powers that be would think nothing of it. Ignore it …didn’t happen … the majority is that important to these clowns.
They’ve spent 50 years telling their people that facts don’t matter; that objective reality is optional. So of course, they’ve created a generation of people who actually believe they can define their own reality. The “Country Club Republicans” thought they could lead these people by the nose endlessly and they never even considered the possibility that they were opening themselves up to be overtaken by these post-truthers.
We’re stating that Santos (please, don’t make me repeat “George Anthony Devolder Zabrowsky Kitara Rivance Santos” is a particularly ripe edition of a typical corrupt Republican. But I’m from Massachusetts and New Jersey, so I know a thing or two about real crooks. They usually bring more style and flair to their crimes. Santos is not at this level. He is a one person clowb car. You should not constantly lie about everything if you can’t even do it credibly.
Well, I wouldn’t trust Santos to fly an F4 (though he might try to sell it as part of a phony scam), much less become an ace pilot. That said, he may be the most comprehensively corrupt politician working today, and in the GOP that is saying a very great deal, indeed.
He’s not even in the top 10. He’s a lightweight penny ante grifter picking up nickels compared to most of them

Anyone on the 45 inauguration committee - reached a breathtaking level of theft not seen before
Anyone shown as a “media buyer” for a campaign or PAC skimming 15-20% off the top
Anyone involved in fundraising for a SuperPAC skimming 20-35% of donations
There’s so much money sloshing around in US politics it’s easy to divert a portion into your own pockets, cover it with a contract and call it good. Outright fraud (and stealing from other GQP candidates) is where Santos went wrong.
