The question now is: does Pence and Haley feel that way now?

I didn’t include DeSantis, because he hasn’t declared yet.

It’s good to know the definition of an honest politician being one who stays bought has not changed. But if there were a politicians’ union, they wouldn’t have to sell out so cheaply.

In other Pope news….personally, I say, fuck you pope and church; a little, way too late.

The Vatican on Thursday formally repudiated the colonial-era “doctrine of discovery”, used centuries ago to justify European conquests of Africa and the Americas, saying “it is not part of Catholic Church teaching”.

The Vatican acknowledged in a statement from its culture and human development departments that papal documents from the 15th century were used by colonial powers to give legitimacy to their actions, which included slavery.

The departments specifically mentioned the papal bulls Dum Diversas (Until Different) from 1452, Romanus Pontifex (The Roman Pontiff) from 1455, and Inter Caetera (Among Other Things) from 1493.

They said they “were manipulated for political purposes by competing colonial powers in order to justify immoral acts against indigenous peoples that were carried out, at times, without opposition from ecclesiastical authorities”.

The Vatican departments admitted that the bulls, which gave political cover to Spanish and Portuguese conquests in Africa and the Americas, “did not adequately reflect the equal dignity and rights of indigenous peoples”.

“It is only just to recognize these errors, acknowledge the terrible effects of the assimilation policies and the pain experienced by indigenous peoples, and ask for pardon,” they said.

Wow …This photo is the product of a deeply disturbed individual.
SERIOUSLY …what will they pose a baby with next?
A bassinet full of bourbon bottles?
A crib full of machetes & long bladed knives? Maybe a dead deer with some high velocity arrows through the buck’s abdomen?

What’s lost in all this Disneyword-DeSantis craziness is that this district practically ran itself for decades with no fuss or muss, no controversy or glitches. This was truly a “government run like a business.”

And it could have continued that way were it not for DeSantis’ nose getting out of joint over a corporate citizen voicing criticism over an ugly culture war policy targeting gays and trans people.

There are many such self-taxing special purpose government districts, such as those funded by local hotels and tourism businesses to support a convention center or arena that attracts business meetings and gatherings, an airport or a seaport funded by enterprise funds, ticket sales and dock or user fees so as not be be a burden on the general tax base.

In the case of Disney World, it was an effort to streamline the seamless delivery of a wide range of critical government services to a large area that spanned numerous jurisdictions and local and regional governments. Absent an umbrella organization to administer the entire district, the company would have had to negotiate multiple contracts with different entities and live with an uneven patchwork of service contracts.

And now that the district is going to be governed by a bunch of know-nothing political appointee culture warriors, who likely lack experience and expertise in funding infrastructure, approving and overseeing land development projects, building and food inspections, providing an array of government services including police, fire and emergency medical, and preparing long-term debt instruments to fund expansion, among other complex functions, why wouldn’t a multi-billion dollar corporation operating a multi-billion dollar entertainment attraction proactively work to protect its investment?

DeSantis’ stooges thought they were going to be policing Disney content. As it now stands, this new board can do little more than fix potholes and haul away trash — as it should be.

right… we would also never invite the Israeli government to speak at the US Congress in order to push America on issues and troll our democratically-elected President… oh, wait…

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/in-state-of-the-union-obama-takes-credit-as-republicans-push-back/2015/01/21/dec51b64-a168-11e4-b146-577832eafcb4_story.html

That invitation to address Congress, extended by House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, marked a sharp rejection of Obama’s plea for Congress to stay out of negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. If Congress votes to sanction Iran, Obama had warned, it could upset delicate and long-running talks.

Boehner said he would ignore the president’s demand, taking the unusual step of inviting a foreign leader directly into an American political debate.
