A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
The legal proceedings surrounding Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation suit against Fox News continue to deliver a treasure trove of information about internal comms at Fox News that affirm what has become increasingly clear in the last year, but has been known about the news network for decades: feeding your relatives lies and half-truths that make them angry is just a business model.
Josh was spot on regarding the coming cascade of negative articles concerning the former anointed one, Ron DeSantis. The plan seems to be to depict him as a less personable version of Jeb Bush. Also, what is Chris Christie* smoking? Exactly who is hoping for a Christie candidacy…?
Nikki Haley and Tim Scott can be substituted here…
Americans 57 to 38 percent think criminal charges should disqualify former President Donald Trump from running for president again, if charges are filed against him as a result of multiple state and federal criminal investigations, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today.
But that 38%, his minions and supporters, have infiltrated all levels of the State offices that can potentially overrule the will of the people. TFG’s support will rarely ever fall below 30% but their influence is strong over the mechanics of legislation and elections.
The FDA will meet in May to talk about whether the agency should approve one type of birth control pill to be sold over-the-counter. The pill is called Opill and is currently only available via prescription. If approved it’ll be the first birth control pill available over the counter in the country.
I suspect red-State legislatures will immediately ban the medication being sold in their States. They’ve worked very hard to make sure that women in their constituencies have absolutely no say in something as important as reproduction.
As for the rest of MM, a good portion of it has been discussed here before.
Disney had a great day yesterday, not only did they take down DeSantis, but they also settled with their union employees with a new contract that will change the tourist industry.
Is being convicted of a war crime - specifically murder- something that falls through a peculiar loophole & does not count as a Felony & does not pose as a barrier to federal employment ?
Among other things, a “declaration of restrictive covenants” spells out that the district is barred from using the Disney name without the corporation’s approval or “fanciful characters such as Mickey Mouse.”
That declaration is valid until “21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, king of England living as of the date of this declaration,” if it is deemed to violate rules against perpetuity, according to the document.
