President Donald Trump on Friday tweeted a phrase that recalled the racist police violence of the ’60s: “When the looting starts, the shooting starts.”
President Trump has very consciously worked to metastasize a cancer in the country, for what he sees as his own political benefit. He is willing to see people killed to save himself.
Well, Trump has succeeded bringing us back to the good ol’ days of 60s and 70s, complete with high unemployment and race riots, there is no Vietnam war, but we have a pandemic to take care of the excess population. #MAGA indeed.
It’s not surprising that Trump is pivoting to Boogaloo.
It is a little surprising, at least, that some prominent Republican officeholders are expressing sympathy for the cause, if not the protesters (e.g., Tim Scott and Kevin McFuckingCarthy). Seems like they’re stepping on his overtly racialist/apocalyptic message by affirming, in a way I can’t remember prominent Repubs doing before, that we have a problem here.
Or maybe it’s just good segmented marketing – McCarthy signals to the suburban Republicans uneasy with Trumpian race war as policy that it’s still okay for them to vote for the R, and Trump can continue to lavish that sweet, sweet red meat on his base of Kluxers, alt-righties and fellow travellers.
Trump has no values, not empathy, and no fixed views. He just takes on and is impacted by what he sees. He is the addled old man who repeats the last thing he saw or heard.
His racism is the Fred trump racism, and combine that with something he read on twitter or saw on some right wing loon site, and you get this tweet. He liked the sound of it.
He did not need miller to feed him this, his base racism (and sexism) combined with just being an impressionable dumb ass is enough.
But he is decompressing as the stress builds. It will further damage the country, but it will also push trump down into the 30s in his votes share and doom the Republican Party to permanent minority party status.
