Hello, it’s the weekend. This is The Weekender At one point during Trump’s sentencing hearing on Friday, Judge Juan Merchan remarked that while the circumstances of the case were unique, there was nothing really that unusual about the trial itself. “The trial was a bit of a paradox,” Merchan said. “Because once the courtroom…
if Hell were going to break loose it would have done so long ago. I’d say we’re dealing with Hellish remnants now
As a former Marine Corporal and Vietnam veteran, my main problem with Hegseth nomination to be Sec of Def is his lack of qualification to lead such a large organization. As a Major in the Army Reserve he was only leading a battation composed of 600 to maybe 800 men and women. He has no experience with all the various things needed to manage the Def Dept. The largest unit I led was a squad of 12 to 14 men. There was no way I could have been a Regimental or Division Commander etc. He just isn’t qualified period and this is an insult to all the men and women in uniform!
If they know where all the illegals are, then they know where all the business owners that hired them are. When do those folks get arrested? Twelfth of Never?
Key senators receive Pete Hegseth’s FBI background check days out from confirmation hearing
Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., the panel’s chairman, and Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., the ranking member, are the only senators who have the report, the two sources said.
The 25-member committee does not necessarily need to review Hegseth’s background check to proceed with the nomination hearing, but two committee sources familiar with the process said it was “unprecedented” that the report took this long to get to the panel’s top members.
Democrats on the committee that NBC News spoke with have been frustrated by the delay, and suggest the FBI report may not be thorough, particularly for a Cabinet pick that has been entangled in controversy. One person who worked closely with Hegseth in the past and another who was contacted by Congress regarding Hegseth told NBC News they are concerned the FBI has not reached out to them
The big meat packing plants certainly aren’t hard to find, or Pilgrim’s Pride Chicken back in my old home state of Texas. All owned by right wing conservatives. And as Anthony Bourdain pointed out years ago if you round up all the illegals the entire restaurant industry shuts down. That shrimp fettuccine they’re enjoying almost assuredly comes out of a kitchen ran by Mexican labor
It is extremely rare for a President to nominate a Cabinet nominee who is a drunk. The last time it happened was 1989 when there were similar concerns about excessive alcohol use. When it happens, such a nominee is almost always rejected.
FIFY, Hunter Walker.
This is a frequent ploy by Trump – he does something unusual – say commits a crime – and then claims that any action taken against him is unprecedented. He is part of the Karenhood BroHood on steroids: Do you know who I am?
“The death of empathy is one of the earliest and most telling signs of a culture about to fall into barbarism.” – Hannah Arendt
Bingo! Until there is a penalty for the Perdue’s, Monsanto’s, Hilton’s, etc. of the nation for using undocumented labor, there will be no real change.
Because once the courtroom doors were closed, the trial was no more special, unique, or extraordinary than any of the other 32 criminal trials that took place in this courthouse at the same time.
I find this VERY difficult to believe. Are you telling me that in the other 32 trials there was as much arrogance and contempt for the court, and the legal process? Please cite the evidence of this.
There was a major thing lost on the supreme court arg about TT and Chinese influence. It is not the kids, it is the dissident Chinese americans and taiwanese who are being targeted. It is real, and lives are at risk all the time. Granted, if TT is divested of Chinese control, they have other means, but why leave the cookie jar without a lid?
Dear hubby spent 30 years in kitchens as a chef. We know that. The MAGAts don’t have a clue.
WHAT!!! that might be what the MAGAts want, but there is no way that this should not be public, so therefore all the committee memebers should see it. I don’t care if the committee gets to see it first, but then we should all see it… ESPECIALLY if this asshole is confirmed.
I believe the writer is indicating that the court proceedings in all of those 32 trials were no different, trial to trial. They were all run in exactly the same way.
Round up or scare away all those workers and things will change. As much as the owners and executives love the idea of another tax cut that they don’t need, the idea of cleaning hotel rooms themselves is not so appealing. It’s a dilemma. Enjoy hatred of workers who produce wealth for the businesses or recognize the value of people who have been designated scapegoats. I’m guessing Hate is in the center of this Bingo card.
Cede control of the noise machine to silly people, and the noise machine makes silly noises. Per Khloe Kardashian’s attacks on Karen Bass, LA mayor, for cutting the LA Fire Department budget:
When Mayor Karen Bass unveiled her budget plan for 2024-25, she called for a 2.7% reduction in spending at the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Her proposal, unveiled in April, sought $23 million in cuts to the department, with much of it focused on reduced equipment purchases.
But while her citywide spending proposal was being reviewed, Bass was also in closed-door negotiations over a major boost in pay for the city’s 3,300 firefighters. Those pay hikes — four years of raises and an array of other financial incentives — were not finalized until several months after her budget went into effect.
The City Council approved the firefighter raises in November, adding more than $53 million in additional salary costs. By then, the council had also signed off on $58 million for new firetrucks and other department purchases.
Once those two line items were added, the fire department’s operating budget actually grew by more than 7% compared to the prior fiscal year, according to the city’s financial analysts.
The FBI allowed an agent of an enemy power to reach the White House, what the hell do they care about an unqualified drunken philanderer becoming SecDef?
The Senate needs to refuse to seat Hegseth because he creates a “two Jabroni problem”.
The world needs to have a responsible adult between Trump and the nukes. Hegseth doesn’t qualify because he is a drunk and an ass-kisser. We need someone more like Mattis or Deptula.
The two Jabroni problem is when you work for a fool and his boss is a fool, you are screwed no matter what you do. Hegseth-Trump is classic “Two Jabroni” and the world is screwed if they take us to Armageddon over a Trump burst of dementia.
