Anybody here that was supposed to get a SS payment yesterday? Did it happen? Mine isn’t due until next week. Seems like that’s the first place we’ll see firsthand if Treasury’s payment system is up and working.

It’s encouraging to see federal employee unions fighting back, as well as the FBI. I was starting to think we would have to put our democracy on the shoulders of Mark Elias alone, I mean, as much as I feel better knowing Susan Collins is concerned about the subject.

re: Gaza, i.e., a bit off topic but perhaps suitably, um, odd and potentially sinister? …
okay so this weird “newsletter?” called Global AI News has started appearing in my inbox. Also has a web site where the same stuff appears but I can’t find any evidence of who/what/whatever is the source of it in either the email or the site …

This morning the top entry on the email was the thing below about Gaza. And the email runs other gushy Trump praise, along with encouragement to the U.S. to smack down those uppity EU people who want to put reins on AI and so on. So what I wonder is – Is this just some tech-bro-donor sucking up to Trump for money and permission to run the world unregulated…

Or is there some reason tech-bro-donor money (or whatever else is behind this weird writing) would actually have been the source of Trump’s Gaza “idea.” … Do they have their own purposes in mind for an ethnically cleansed Gaza that go beyond beachfront Trump condos?

Trump’s Gaza Plan: Aiming for Peace and Prosperity

President Donald Trump’s newly unveiled plan for Gaza aims to foster economic development and regional stability by offering Palestinians new opportunities. The proposal seeks to transform Gaza into a thriving region under international oversight, with substantial investments in infrastructure, education, and business growth.

Under the plan, Palestinians would have the option to relocate to partner nations with financial and logistical support, while the U.S. and its allies spearhead the rebuilding of Gaza. The initiative emphasizes voluntary participation, aiming to provide displaced individuals with better economic prospects and improved living conditions.

While some nations have expressed concerns over the feasibility of relocation, supporters argue that the plan presents a unique opportunity to break the cycle of conflict and create a more stable Middle East. Proponents believe that revitalizing Gaza’s economy, improving governance, and fostering global partnerships can lead to long-term peace and prosperity.

The proposal has sparked discussions among international leaders, with calls for collaboration to ensure that any efforts align with Palestinian aspirations and regional stability. As diplomatic negotiations continue, the plan presents an opportunity for constructive dialogue and innovative solutions to long-standing challenges in the region.

Things must have felt very bleak in the summer of 1942 too.

Josh Marshall’s point that just holding on is not only about all we can do right now, but is the only thing that will make an eventual difference, is valid.

HOLD THE FUCK ON!

Counterpoint: “PLAINS, Pa. — Behind the counter of the pink-tiled D’s Diner, Tammy Malloy chatted in between serving a late morning wave of tables. The 67-year-old said she had come to work beaming the day after the November election, in which she had voted for Donald Trump.

And now, 10 days into Trump’s second presidency, Malloy was still thrilled with what she was seeing happen in Washington. She was particularly pleased with Trump choosing Pete Hegseth, a former weekend Fox News host and Army veteran who was dogged by allegations of sexual misconduct and alcohol abuse, to lead the Defense Department. Why?
“To get rid of the DEI,” Malloy said,”

So, while we discuss the shitshow, the real ‘Mericans in a diner (always a diner) are rejoicing in the hatred that made this country great.

Has Musk been seen in public recently? He’s not paranoid, is he? More to the point, does he have Secret Service protection (yet), or is he still using his private goons? Just asking questions.

He signed a dismissal for a client he was still recorded as representing.

Reason to disbar the bastard?

Fascinating interview and report. The GOP really is the White Christian Nationalist People’s Popular Front.

“They’ve replaced Jesus with Machiavelli.”

Partisanship, media habits, age, and education levels are all linked to Christian nationalism support.

  • A majority of Republicans qualify as either Christian nationalism Adherents (20%) or Sympathizers (33%), compared with about two in ten or fewer independents (6% Adherents and 16% Sympathizers) and Democrats (5% Adherents and 11% Sympathizers).
  • Two-thirds of Americans who most trust most far-right TV news sources qualify as Christian nationalism Adherents (26%) or Sympathizers (40%), as does a majority of those who most trust Fox News (18% Adherents and 34% Sympathizers).
  • Support for Christian nationalism is positively associated with lower education levels and higher age.

Because of course he laced in the antisemitism of calling a Jewish man a Palestinian…

Miller probably wrote that one himself.

And of course Mango Messiah thinks it’s just a big wonderful real estate development deal that he can use the power of the US gov’t to steal for himself…

I suspect it ultimately comes down to two things: (1) if there’s already been promises made for him to get a slice to develop, Mango wants more and is doing his usual thing, which is breaking every deal he’s ever made to demand more when he thinks he has or can acquire leverage by making threats OR (2) if there wasn’t any deal for him to get a slice, he’s now publicly demanding one.

I wonder if any native Americans recognize this plan as something that has been done before - many, many times before. Bibi’s apparent delight tells you how evil this actually is.

My mother-in-law got hers on the 3rd, as usual. (I oversee her accounts.) But Musk and his henchmen probably hadn’t gotten there yet.
