What Does Today’s Immunity Decision Mean For Trump’s Delay Strategy?

Tuesday’s long-awaited ruling from the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals roundly rejected Donald Trump’s claim that presidential immunity barred his Jan. 6 criminal trial from going forward.

Sounds like this ruling was worth the wait.

Thanks for giving some clarity to this really complicated scheduling point.

Delay is a form of manipulation. Good luck with that. This is not New York in the 1980’s…it’s more real than that. I imagine most of the Judges ( with the exception of Cannon ) handling Trump matters are not going to put up with his act. No delay. The smell of “fucked” is in the air.

I call #5

It means that if the courts hurry up, we might get a conviction before November… if we’re really lucky.

Curious if Trump petitions for an en blanc rehearing, and Mondays SCOTUS filing deadline from the DC Circuit keeping the stay in place over the weekend expires, and the DC then rejects the rehearing, does that shut the door for him going to the SCOTUS until post trial (on a possible appeal).

So the January 6th case will be tried in May or June instead of March? I can live with that.

Trump is going to have a hard time finding 5 justices to grant him cert. A May or June trial date seems to be in view.

I think that’ll depend on what SCOTUS does, which is an open question.

How f’d is Trump? Biggly.

If Trump were an ordinary defendant with good lawyers he would be trying to make a deal right now.

It’s a real shame what legal representation in Biden’s economy you can get for $50M.

Real shame.

I still think SC might want to grab it, put their own spin on “No Immunity”.

This puts their pulling end of June, and trial date not set until Right around the RNC. Probably commencing mid-Aug

Only needs 4 for Cert…

Which means he only needs 2 more…

What possible “deal” could there be other than lesser sentence for not making the courts go through the motions?

Something

Something like the one Agnew took, including an agreement never to seek public office. But Trump would never go for that.

Yeah, he would have to plead guilty which he’ll never do. A reduction of a prison sentence is still prison, and most of all, he would lose “Biden persecution” as a campaign theme. It’s all or nothing for Trump. He’ll fight this to the bitter end.

Apparently DHS Mayorkas will be impeached for not doing what the GOP did not want done.
Goober logic in action

SC Smith - go bust Orange Jesus. He has one appeal left before he has to face the music, and FOUR judges in the WDC circuit have already seen enough from Smith’s filings that they think he is guilty. They just need a jury to confirm their opinion. A good day for America and a bad day for MAGA !
