What Dems Need From The First Public Impeachment Hearing | Talking Points Memo

The House impeachment inquiry will enter a new phase Wednesday when the congressional investigation grills its first witnesses in public.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1261606

Like the released transcripts in which people generally only have time to read the summaries, not too many people will be able watch the hearings in full.

However the summary of open testimony will be in the form of clips, or the “Highlight Reel”. This will show the seriousness of these sober public servants. This will be easier to consume for your average person.

I also think that Republicans will overplay their actions and looks the BSing fools that they are. It will also leave them subject to parody.

Today’s hearings are going to interfere with any serious work getting done today.

I don’t think that matters to most and the ones that it does bother complain they’re being bullied to their base.

One can only imagine what Trumpian thing can be done today to change the headline news. Perhaps bomb a small country or rape a small child on 5th avenue? Is Don Jr busy today?

This particular Dem needs every witness to come out and say, “Drumpf blackmailed Ukraine into claiming corruption on the part of a political rivals campaign to benefit himself.” Oh, and, “Mr. Meadows, Mr. Jordan, is it hard work getting up in the morning so dumb, or is it a 24-hour thing with you?”

@atldrew congratulations on the job. Don’t worry, impeachment is just getting started.

Is the questioning going to be done by a prosecutor or by the committee members?

President Erdogan of Turkey is visiting the WH today.

During his last visit to Washington, Erdogan’s security detail beat up protesters, and Trump shrugged with touch of envy.

I wonder what today’s visit will bring.

I opt for something involving Ol’ Recep Erdoğan . Guaranteed Trump will go off during the Oval office Photo op. Maybe Erdoğan’s thugs can beat up some protesters or a few lamestream media correspondents. Apart from what is said or projected , you know Donnie is just seething with anger

From WaPo:
Beginning at 10 a.m., Schiff and ranking Republican Devin Nunes (Calif.) will give opening statements, followed by opening remarks from Taylor and Kent.

The lawyers on the committee for the Democrats and for the Republicans will be given 45 minutes each to question the witnesses. Only Schiff and Nunes can participate in this round.

Following this portion of the hearing, the rest of the committee members will be given five minutes each to ask questions, alternating between majority and minority.

45 minutes each? That should work. Nunes doesn’t even have 45 seconds of anything in his head.

During which we can foresee Nunes using all of his allotted time to further the investigation into Hillary’s emails.

I love the use of the s-word. Need to drive home the un-American-ness of it all.

What they need is for the media to recognize the seriousness and not collectively yawn like they did with Mueller.

I got $20 that says one of the first questions a Republican asks is “What do you know about Hunter and Joe Biden’s corruption?”

They can’t help it. They’re just that dumb.

They need to emphasize who ordered the whole thing. The GOP is going to argue that the useful idiot didn’t know that this was happening. My guess is that they will blame it all on Rudy… If they start doing that, then the Dems need to start saying that the GOP doesn’t think that he was in control, and that the GOP thinks he’s not smart enough to do it.
