The White House slammed Senate Republicans on Tuesday for refusing to approve a request to temporarily replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) on the Judicial Committee, a request Feinstein made personally so she could have more time to recover from an illness.
Do we never learn? Complaining about reasonable requests to a bunch of unreasonable repubs? I’m ready to see dems use their muscles. Screw decorum. Grab McConnell by the nuts and don’t let go until he squeals! Show me the muscles!
Good to know the WH will back one of its own, the long time senator from CA (my senator, BTW), while the inevitable cleanest solution is being stalled. Senator Feinstein must resign, Governor Newsom stands ready to appoint, very likely, Barbra Lee for the interim, and so everyone involved should just get on with it. The Judiciary committee is growing cobwebs while this bickering continues.
“Senator Feinstein has been an extraordinary senator, and she’s a good friend of mine,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) told the Daily Beast Monday. “During the past two years, there’s been a concerted campaign to force her out of the Judiciary Committee and I will have no part of that.”
Question for Emine: When McTurtle says this,
“The supposed emergency is the Senate Democrats are unable to push through the small fraction of their nominees who are so extreme, so extreme and so unqualified, that they cannot win a single Republican vote in committee,”
has anyone gone to see if any of the Dem nominations since 2022 have received a single vote from the GQP traitors on the Judiciary Committee? My guess is none have. So I assume they must be all extreme and unqualified
And, given the knee jerk bipartisanship of the reactionaries, surely they can cite all the nominees that Donnie put forth who received the unqualified support of the opposition.
So glad to read your comment. I know it’s sad, particularly for the constituents who love and admire her, but I really want her to resign before it gets messier or impacts upcoming votes. She has been too much of a party lioness to end her career on a sour note.
Agreed. I was hoping to read that KJP had opened a whole can of whoop ass on the obstructionist GOP who were endangering our country and forcing this woman to travel and work against her will. Its the first senate work requirement ive ever heard of. They could talk about how these fools want to raw dog power, but the impotent republian house cant even come up with a budget - so this what the senate is doing to pass time…
So many threads to pull but dems choose a polite letter and some stern talking points. That will show em.
That said, I think the better response from the White House would have been ‘Look, we knew the Republicans were never going to honor Senator Feinstein’s request. They don’t care about comity or dignity or respect, they just care about partisan bullshit.’
And yes, I think the time has definitely come for the White House to use the word ‘bullshit’ from the Press Room, officially.
