White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany defended President Trump’s remarks earlier Wednesday that the coronavirus will “just disappear” as several states continue experiencing significant spikes in infection rates.
Now, be fair! The Black Death just sort of disappeared, too, without any medical intervention. It didn’t reappear for many, many generations. Of course, it killed off one-third of the population of Europe before it made its exit, but those people had all had a good run, so no hard feelings.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany defended President Trump’s remarks earlier Wednesday that the coronavirus will “just disappear” as several states continue experiencing significant spikes in infection rates.
During a Fox Business interview earlier Wednesday, the President was asked whether he maintains his belief that the coronavirus will disappear, which he has repeatedly insisted in recent months.
“I do. Yeah, sure,” Trump told Fox Business on Wednesday.
In all fairness to the Dotard, this virus will essentially disappear, but it will be replaced by a mutated virus that is just as bad. A whole huge family of them will join our experience over time, perhaps one or two or more at a time, just like the 200+ virus strains that make up the common cold. There’s a good reason why the common cold hasn’t disappeared. Oh and don’t forget about influenza. Every year virus manufacturers have to bet on which strains of influenza will be prevalent and how each of those strains will mutate. Influenza is an RNA virus. Coronavirus is an RNA virus. RNA viruses mutate more rapidly than DNA viruses (such as Smallpox and Herpes) because they don’t have a double helix. It’s the double helix that increases genetic stability, while a single strand of RNA is relatively fragile.
Once we get a vaccine, will the family of viruses that mutate from SARS-CoV-2 disappear? It’s unlikely that it will disappear from the face of the Earth without humans actually modifying their own DNA, but that’s science fiction for now. I suspect that there will be someone somewhere who gets to experience a COVID-19-similar illness unless they receive a vaccine with very high efficacy. Realize that if the vaccine we receive for SARS-CoV-2 is 75% effective, then if 25% of all vaccinated people are subsequently exposed they will likely develop some form of COVID-19. That form of COVID-19 might produce a reduced impact against their health due to the vaccine’s partial protection.
No, COVID-19 and equivalent is going to be with us for a long time. Sorry.
Oh, and everybody in the White House that claims otherwise is full of shit insane.
The White House press secretary responded by characterizing the surge in cases as “embers in the country” and blamed the increase in coronavirus testing on the uptick.
you have to give her credit.
