A lot of power they have relinquished to him. The most significant power is the whole tariff thing. They had a constitutional responsibility to shut that crap down day one, but they slept through that.

A good point. That said, “Christian Nationalist” has a very specific meaning as the group (or groups) that would fuse organized religious power with Federal government power.
They identify as “Christian”. But, yes, they do seem to be religious hypocrites both in depth and breadth with their thinking.

She was a professor at Notre Dame and it’s their legal aid clinic or whatever that’s representing the proponents of the madrasa.
As a result, we’ll now be treated to them acting like this settles nothing and trying all over again, probably via somewhere like Alabama and having Stephen Miller’s KKKlanner “law firm” bring the suit.

“Nancy Mace made these claims only while standing in Congress, purportedly shielded by legal immunity,” Bryant continued. “If she believed them to be true and there was evidence to support her accusations, she would say them outside the chamber — away from her public role and protections and pursue them through proper legal channels. She has not done so, because she cannot.”
Mace’s testimony follows a House floor speech she delivered in early February, accusing Bryant and three other men of rape, sex trafficking and recording sex acts with her and others without consent.
Legal battles have emerged from her allegations. Mace faces a pending defamation lawsuit brought by one of the men she’s accused, which was filed in March in federal court.
Earlier this month, an attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in South Carolina told the court he would be representing Mace, a sign that Mace will likely claim her speech is protected under a clause in the Constitution that provides a legal shield for members of Congress for actions taken as part of their roles as lawmakers.
Mace also sued one of the other accused men in state court earlier this month, claiming he “repeatedly and maliciously defamed” her on social media.

If he were primaried, it would be from his right, and then he’d still win the Repub nomination. What he can’t risk is coming across as too far right, should Dems find a good challenger. Or so I would guess. Others here know tons more than I do about Long Island politics.

Why would you stand up the person that is doing what you enthusiastically want?
I know there are sporadic reports they do so out of fear. But, as far as I can determine, this only represents the fear of may be not getting elected again. As far as policy goes, their impulse is exactly what Donald Trump is doing. They are neurologically simpatico with him.

From China’s standpoint, Napoleon’s exhortation to “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake” applies. The US first has tariff hallucinations, then fiscally cuts its balls off with this Budget Bill. I have no idea what MAGA people are freedom huffing, but their swindling venal House reps seem clueless about what might happen in a major recession or even depression.

Yes, I agree. … And while to some degree those delays in the Medicaid cuts are set because of the stuff states have to do to make the changes, it’s also about putting things off the Repubs’ benefit…
However, what we don’t know yet is how the public mood toward Trump and his passionate enablers in Congress will go over the next couple of years… I mean, by delaying the Medicaid changes, I think they’re counting on all Trump-ublican sins to be gone and forgotten in a year or two…But…what if things get enuogh worse for the country over that time period? Then the Medicaid cuts would fall directly on people when everybody was already hurting – and I think that would mean the outcry might be bigger later…And if that happens then they will be a little scared…
So I’m still not totally giving up on my Social-Security hope (though it could be a vain hope!)

If you spend any time on X, and you tell yourself that everyone in the Trump admin and throughout much of the tech bro world believe 90% of the horrendous bullshit posted there, it all begins to make sense. From white Afrikaner genocide to imaginary pet eating immigrants, it is all there, and it is being treated as gospel by Trump, his minions and the majority of the SCOTUS. This is where they are all getting their “facts”.
When the minds of the majority of your leaders are absolutely poisoned, what government do you get? We are about to find out in the worst experiment in U.S. history.

I don’t know if any of what she is claiming happened and if it did, it belongs in a court of law. Again, if true she also needs long term therapy for what maybe serious PTSD.

Note that with deportation, the deportee is free upon release wherever. Freedom, health and safety may be shortlived, but the person is not imprisoned.

Medicare cuts will happen due to the PayGo Act which requires those cuts for bills that increase the deficit.
