We Don’t Even Talk About the Guns Anymore

A day after a gunman killed right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk, the internet has been ablaze with recriminations: exhortations from the center and left for both sides to “lower the temperature,” calls from the president and his followers on the right to exact revenge on liberals (despite the perpetrator being unknown and at large). This is…

Yay, Brazil! What do they have that the United States doesn’t have? Or maybe it’s that they don’t have a dominant Republican Party like ours.

The rifle that killed the fascist yesterday is a bolt-action .30-06 hunting rifle, a type that no serious person believes should be subjected to any kind of strict gun control measures.

I believe you meant “subservient Republican Party”…

Whatever CF-DJT wants, he gets. No questions asked by the GOP.

And presumably being an older rifle, maybe in family hands and subject to minimal sale or transfer regulations.

You make a good point, but no – the Republican Party has dominated the Congress for decades, even when in the minority, thanks largely to the Senate’s anti-democratic structure. Now the party itself is dominated, as you note, by one singularly bad person: corrupt, nihilistic, power hungry, greedy, and stupid. Among others. The worst of both worlds.

What they have and the U.S. doesn’t have that foiled the Bolsonaro insurrection was a better voting system. Brazil votes by electronic machines in local areas that every voter uses, and the results are sent to a national center the same day as the election, with results announced that same night.

No challenges, no backsies. Each political party can participate in verifying the software used in the voting machines before the election. With no months-long challenges like we have here, Bolsonaro clearly lost the election. This system couldn’t work here for obvious reasons, but it’s why he’s being nailed and Trump wasn’t for insurrection.

I think it was the NY Post that had a photo of what it said was the rifle, and it looked ~30 years old and well used.

This is why I find the discussions around banning assault weapons so perplexing. In past attempts many of the things that are used to define an assault weapon are mostly ancillary to its main function. The only critical components are the quick change magazines. Which, imo, should be banned from civilian weapons.

Actually,Tumpf ordered flags be raised to half mast. Which I can only imagine means the Viagra isn’t doing the job. Melania was with the pool boy and unavailable for comment.

And thus, as I, (and Chris Rock also says) tax the living shit out of bullets. Making shooting expensive.

That’s silly. There are massive performance differences between a single-shot hunting rifle and an assault rifle.

I honestly think its Kompromat. For all the obviously insane people who agree with it, there are still people who are rational and know Trump and co are blowing up the economy and the world, but they are so personally compromised that they go along with it.

Unfortunately, as you know, more recent hunting rifles are semi-auto with magazines, just like the AR class family, so when some proposes banning magazines or semi auto the gun fanatics go nuts.

Just like their argument over clip vs. magazine.

Tax bullets. Taxes can change behaviors.

Ammosexual’s Creed:

We don’t shed a tear
For the children so dear
Or the family gunned down just for fun

When the bullets start flying
We save all our crying
For the wear and tear on the gun

I am fine with a Charlie Kirk statue as long as we also put up statues of all the kids killed in school shootings in the past 10 years.

It’ll give us something to tear down once the regime topples.

I’m not sure of your point re: silly. Maybe I should have lead with OT as I was just making a side comment. Yes there is a massive difference between single-shot rifles and semi-automatic ones. And that difference is largely button release type magazines.
