That doesn’t work. Hand loading – pressing cast lead bullets into brass casings with gunpowder and adding a primer – is a big hobby for gun hobbyists because you can make custom loads. It’s a simple technology; impossible to tax without creating an underground of easily available ammo for anyone who wants it.

It’s weird to read the Bill of Rights. I am not a lawyer, but the second amendment clearly refers to a militia. A militia is referred to again in the fifth amendment, and it is separated from land forces and sea forces, clearly implying that the militia is not the army.
I think the Bill of Rights imagines the militia having an order keeping role. It intends to subject them to additional scrutiny, and give them additional rights. The organization closest to what it seems they are talking about is not really the national guard, it’s the police.
The Constitution means what we decide it means. That was the intent of the authors, so I’m certainly not saying that my interpretation is better than the interpretation of the Supreme Court over the last couple hundred years.
I personally think that our current structure around guns is insane. Guns are an offensive weapon, not a defensive one. It is a sword, not a shield.
We need to stop arming domestic terrorists, and we need to stop pretending that this is patriotic, or the intent of our founders. Suggesting that our founders wanted us all to be armed to the teeth, is suggesting that our founders were fucking insane.
I see the second amendment as guaranteeing me, a citizen, the right to the protection of a militia. I don’t feel protected.

Agreed. Gun control wouldn’t have stopped this. However limiting clip size and who should or should not own assault rifles would stop most mass-casualty shootings.

Fair enough. I wasn’t actually criticizing your post, just adding a little snark to suggest that the sane view (that’s yours) is not sane enough for our current circumstances, but as snark because your view is how things should be in a sane world.
So let’s wait and see if this rifle turns out to actually be the one that fired the shot, or was one dropped by an enthusiastic MAGA who spent a few minutes scratching things onto shell casings before dropping his oldest weapon out onto the forest, along with his least favorite towel…

I, who know my way around firearms, don’t give a shit about the distinction and wholeheartedly agree with your point. And I would just make possession of a semi-auto firearm in any form a felony. Nobody needs to spray bullets. You need to aim, people.

Over thinking things a bit. But as volatile as this country is, with the insane running it on high, choosing someone like Kirk as a target will add to the instability. He is somewhat perfect for it. This deification of Kirk, calls for a statue and the overreaction to any truth telling is dead on in manipulating this administration. Has anyone suggested this might have been set into play by a foreign actor?

Well Nick Fuentes certainly pushes Putin’s propaganda, and I would bet money that the murderer is some kind of incel Groyper credulous dipshit, so it’s in play. Not in any kind of command-and-control, just suggestible idiots doing suggestible things.
I really and truly think it is more likely than not that this is a Fuentes fan. The Groypers have been hounding Charlie Kirk’s ass for several years now, and they are not people with any touch of grounding.
