I like it already. Kevin being Kevin.
We’re grossly overpaying! It’s a Whole Foods kind of weakness!
A lot of red meat in today’s MM. The thought of a long shutdown is a bummer. Hope it doesn’t effect air travel much. Heading to Virginia 2 weeks from today. Luckily, none of the sites on the itinerary are national parks.
Anyone else tired yet of Ms. Hutchinson’s self righteousness? She was loyal from the beginning to a man who bragged about grabbing women by the pussy. That should have been a full stop. She says she was loyal to him until January 6. She still thinks the GOP can be saved. Bless her precious little heart.
Spritz the Cat, July 2005-September 2023. Excellent “mouser” (retirement caused by total blindness), lover, talker, smart, very loud “motor” (purring) when petted. Beautiful Tortoise shell coat. She is missed.
So the GOP House is on strike? Doesn’t want to govern, i.e. compromise, so it’s gonna impeach and impugn. Neato keen!
I don’t think it will last very long – because the air traffic controllers will (once again) not be paid, and instead of manning the control towers up and down the East Coast, they’ll be out Ubering/Lyfting/Door Dashing, in order to pay their bills. I have a family member going to Europe on Saturday – will they be able to get home? Time will tell.
to be more accurate) is that the Freedom Caucus is threatening Kevin McCarthy’s speakership so he won’t bring bipartisan deals to the floor. That is the rub here. Full stop.
It’s even worse than that. McCarthy is doing this just so that he doesn’t have to suffer the indignity of a Speaker-vote that he would all-too-likely WIN.
NOBODY…I repeat, NOBODY ELSE wants that job.
But McCarthy has also convinced himself that he sits in an enviable position.
And that is literally the funniest/saddest thing I’ve ever heard.
I received my email this am from Social Security that my application for retirement benefits has been approved - I’ll get my confirming letter in two weeks.
I wanted to get in before the shutdown and it looks like I’ve succeeded. I may not see a check for a few months, or something like that, but that’s ok - my contract house has yet to replace me, despite multiple promises, but at least I have the approval for when things get started back up again.
So sorry for your loss. We never have them long enough, and it’s so hard to say goodbye.
Re: Tim Scott
I hate doing an “Iron Mountain” deal, but I’m not pressed to go further.
The one major impact of the shutdown that will affect these MoC’s that think it’s such a hot idea is the loss of the air travel benefit.
Once the ATCs walk off the job, and I think they should already have their papers ready to submit within an hour of the shutdown, all bets are off as to how long the shutdown will last.
That’s their short and long term plan. All Bozo all the time.
Lucky you! I sent off my passport renewal application the last week of August (received on 8/29, check cleared on 8/31). Will I get it back by Christmas?
That’s entirely too long - the word ‘nothing’ takes at least seven.
TPM’s Hunter Walker: Joe Kent Is The Most Extreme House Candidate You Haven’t Heard About
Oh, some of us have heard of him. We’ve heard of Loren Culp and Matt Shea too. This notion of the west coast as the “left coast,” has always been just wrong. Most of us have seen the very strong urban/rural divisions. Just like the Pennsylvania comments about Pittsburg and Philadelphia bookending Alabama, we have Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue and Everett surrounded by Neshoba county(ies).
And there’s plenty of history with right wing groups killing folks they don’t like here.
Sorry, wrong reply button.
“Will they be able to get home?”
Will they even want to?
But isn’t it true that, if the shutdown goes through, congresscritters still get paid but their staff members don’t?
The whole thing could come to a screeching halt if they don’t have their staff to actually do the work for them, no?
