Just.So.Pathetic!
Here’s what I’d like to see happen with Raff:
I’d like him to run for Governor as a third party candidate. He would be likely to siphon off enough votes of disgruntled GOP voters with the GQP in their State that a Democrat could win and win handily.
Don’t forget that Stacy’s loss was VERY close. It was 50.2 to 48.8. Just a few thousand votes would make the difference.
I was chatting with a neighbor who mentioned that another person down the street carries a gun, and honestly I felt a surge of disdain. “Who’s he gonna shoot?” I asked. It’s like with Graham, you have a gun mostly because you’ve imagined you might in some infinitesimally unlikely circumstance need one and acted on that imagining.
If brain power was electricity there would be another Texas blackout.
So if I am refused the reasonable access to vote, it can be argued that I am not being represented in government, if I am not being represented in government then the American axiom is “no taxation without representation” is brought into play, therefor, only those provided with reasonable access to the franchise (voting) must pay taxes
I would further this argument that if you do not align with either of the two major political parties, the only two with any real access to power, then one is not represented in government, those in power can claim that I have representation by virtue of someone being assigned to the location of my residence, but if that individual does not vote even tangentially to to what I consider my interests, then that person does not truly represent me and my opinion, therefor I am being taxed without representation - my argument for proportional representation, added comment, if we were allowed to be represented via a proportional distribution of representation, each of us would have numerous representatives in the same legislative body, one of which would almost certainly come much closer to representing one’s true opinion than the current biopoly of thought that has resulted in the gargantuan mess we are living through
Poll taxes?
But the BLM gangs have RPG’s, Miz Lindz. George Soros bought them.
no, more like income, sales, fees, those kind of taxes
edit: long winded way of saying if the wealthy want all the power, they can pay all the costs (which we already know they have no intention of doing) OR “you don’t want me to have a say? then you get to foot the bill”
not that I am at all ok with the wealthy holding all the power
We should do away with the filibuster.
— Adam Schiff (@AdamSchiff) March 28, 2021
But @ReverendWarnock is exactly right:
The most immediate question is not why we have a filibuster, but why would Republicans use it?
Why won't they stand up for the right of all Americans to vote? pic.twitter.com/jqRhe4qZvH
We’re singing from the same sheet of music.
And that’s the thing that bugs me when someone says, “we need Stacey in my state”, well what’s stopping you from being the Stacey Abrahams of your state? Or finding the Dem in your state legislature that is trying to be your state’s Stacey Abrahams?
I remember that the election results were >–< in the 2018 GA election. And how much work went into her getting that close.
not part of this national debate is why/how it came to be that EVERY piece of legislation that CAN be filibustered IS filibustered
the filibuster has become the default, and it can be easily argued that was NEVER the intent of how legislation is passed in this nation, until Grim Reaper McConnell showed up that is
that a-hole should have been wiped out by a chunk of Skylab falling back to earth back in the day
If all we can bring to the fight is insults, we’ve already lost the war
OT: had to share this other Georgia related Tweet.
If you dare, there’s a short video.
Michael Dukakis unlike those pictured on the SS Cruz served in the army during the Korean War.
Good question to be asking but for a lot of folks, the answer is, “I’m not black.” That doesn’t mean non-blacks can’t be impactful, but they can’t be the Stacy Adams of their state
I was starting to wonder if Rafael is smuggling kids across the border under his shirt
hasn’t skipped as many meals as he has days at the Senate gym by the looks of it
must be all of the maple syrup and jelly donuts
I would say David Frum has Lindsay’s cowardice pegged. And, by the way, no one is going to Lindsay’s house.
Pressed on whether Biden should prioritize federal voting rights over infrastructure, which the President said was his next big legislative priority during his first formal press conference in office on Thursday, Warnock replied that it’s possible to “walk and chew gum at the same time.”
“We got to work on the infrastructure of our country, our roads and our bridges and we got to work on the infrastructure of our democracy,” Warnock said.
I’ve really been impressed with Warnock’s ability to turn a phrase. “The infrastructure of our democracy” is a particularly nice one.
