Russia/USSR took over the Baltic States in the run-up to the (Russian) invasion of Poland. If you think the Ukrainians don’t want the Russians you would be right. To figure out how much the Estonians, Latvians, and Lithuanians don’t want the Russians in their countries, cube the Ukrainians’ distaste.
Putin appears to be having more trouble than expected with the Ukrainian National Guard. He is not going to create a two-front campaign that brings NATO in as the opposition. As already noted, he is insane, not stupid.

I believe we have given aid to the Baltic states because of the 30k Russian troops that are now indefinitely stationed in Belarus along with their sophisticated hardware. They are not necessarily aimed at Ukraine but a real threat to the Baltics.
