Republican-led legislatures continue blanketing the states they control in laws that make it harder to vote. Census data has been released, starting the clock on the redistricting process which Republicans disproportionately use for partisan advantage. The midterms creep closer, curtailing the time Democrats have to put voting reforms in place.
So, does anyone know where Sinema is taking this very important vacay that must not be interfered with?
Was she this clueless when she was a state Rep three times, or a state senator for one term? Didn’t realize she was a social worker, wouldn’t trust her to look out for her clients if this is how she acts as a US Senator.
Well!…I beat the Gloom Patrol on the message board and have encountered fellow hopefuls.
Right now, my feeling is that
(1) Manchin is less knee-jerk intractable than Sinema
(2) Manchin is probably the only person I would task to convince Sinema to fall in line
(3) Glooming and Dooming is not going to help, this morning. We know the existential threat.
Correction for (2) above: A likely person…Sinema may need more of a shove to reality by more convincing individuals
Maybe but there’s a strain of anarchy in her behavior (and clothing) that continues to worry the hell out of me, a feeling that a ‘shove’ could initiate a wild swing in the opposite direction just to display independence from it.
[“But a small group of senators including Sens. Manchin, Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and perhaps the lawmaker with the most pressing personal stake in voting reform, Raphael Warnock (D-GA), have been quietly working to craft a narrower For the People Act behind closed doors.”]
From the article:
(1) Bold Type Emphasis mine
(2) Klobuchar knows Manchin and what his capabilities are better than I do
Reply to @tindalos…I agree with you…in fact, that comes off to me like the same behavior I saw in the flick Tin Cup…Usually the main way such people are convinced involves coercion. I went to Manchin first because I suspect she admires him.
Get some rest now. Because September, October, and November should be very busy months, with lots of handwringing, and media stories of Dems in disarray, blah, blah, blah.
I actually think - if the Dems keep working determinedly with Biden, Pelosi, and Shumer keeping everyone’s eye on the prize - we could be heading toward a very merry end-of-year holiday season.
Our democracy and literally the form of our country depends on defending the right to vote at the federal level because the Goobers are changing us to one party rule at the state level. I know what that is like as Arizona has had Goober majorities in both our state chambers since 1969. It ain’t healthy folks.
“Business Insider” demanded I turn off my ad blocker. I refuse to do that. So I didn’t read @mickeyg’s link
Edit
In any case I will not be voting for a second term for Sinema. I’ll find another democrat to support.
Oh. I was wondering…there’s a Tweet in the article from @MorePerfectUS with the video, but it’s from June 30 if you want to scroll that far. IDK if Twitter has a search by date.
uBlock Origin will show the Business Insider site without ad-blocking popups.
I’m also a big fan of Disable Javascript extension which can be done/set per-site - that lets me read the Washington Post (except for graphs and pics) and a few others.
