WHO is developing a program to distribute the COVID vaccine to all countries, with wealthier countries helping to fund the program. Guess who isn’t on that list of wealthier countries…
No, Azar is lying, as usual for this administration.
Even if he’s assuming that all the MAGAts and their families won’t want to take it, what he said is neither honest nor in good faith.
We are going to have at least half a dozen vaccines before long. We’ll have AstraZena’s vaccine plus a couple Chinese vaccines, one of them has a 86% efficacy rating according to UAE.
Brazil’s lab also reported good results with one of China’s vaccines.
. AstraZeneca actually signed an agreement to work with Russia’s Sputnik vaccine by starting a trial combining the two. India is working on a couple vaccines. There will vaccines to meet every country’s budget. Maybe the vaccine J&J is working on will meet the guidelines also .By spring, we’ll have many vaccines.
I am looking forward to this one as well. I’ve experienced anaphylaxis and angiodemas in the past and am pretty leery of the two mRNA vaccines. The J&J vaccine is reported to be a more traditional vaccine and only requires a single dose. Fingers crossed it will work and be readily available.
Called the Defense Production Act, it’s expected to be invoked to help Pfizer secure some raw materials needed for its vaccine.
Pfizer got the federal government to commit to legally forcing their suppliers to prioritize Pfizer orders. We will have to see what landmines Trump and Co planted in that agreement for the Biden administration.
I would only add that approximately 20% of the population is under 16 years of age. So if they continue to be ineligible for the vaccine, that leaves about 264 million people (assuming US population of 330 million). Furthermore, if we assume 30% of those won’t take the vaccine for one reason or another, that leaves about 185 million people that need vaccinations, though obviously the more people that get it, the better. And the calculations change if younger folks become eligible.
You’re missing the kids. Almost 75 million under 18. Pfizer is approved for 16, Moderna for 18. So have to subtract all them from the current totals, we don’t expect approval for kids until next fall, if then.
I see @pshah was thinking the same thing at the same time.
Pfizer started trials for kids 12 and older a couple of months ago. I’m guessing they might get approval this summer so kids will be vaccinated before school starts. It’s just a guess though.
I saw something on Twitter about article saying it would be a combo of vaccine and already infected/recovered that will get us to Herd Immunity by the summer.
I wasn’t sure about Astra Seneca because of the confusion over the dosing. Also it wasn’t that great (70+%) when you take out that Brazil trial where they screwed up on the dose.
I don’t know wmhow far off the rest of the vaccines are. I know that J&J expect results in January.
